Newlywed and new to the board!

Hi all, my husband and I have been together for a lil over 3 yrs and we just got married in July. My husband is in the AF and he left 3 wks after the wedding to go overseas for 6 months. I have already sent him a package of things he needed and wanted, but now I'm at a loss as to what I should send him next and in the coming months. I do know that with all the holidays coming up, I want to do some holiday themed packages, but I could use some help as to what I should/could include. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Newlywed and new to the board!

  • You can do a themed care package. Not sure if this is your husband's personality but you can send him a Halloween decorated care package. To make him feel as if he is still part of the civilian world.

You can decorate the inside of the package and include his favorite candy/chocolate, food that he enjoys but doesn't have access to, letters for him to read, etc.

You can do the same for Thanksgiving. It doesn't matter if you send him the same things. You don't have to break your head over what new items he will need. You can also send an already addressed envelope for him to send you a reply to what items he will want to see next.

Hope this helps. It's tough but it's manageable. :)
  • His favorite snacks or snacks unique to your area, non-aerosol air fresheners (dudes stink), the same laundry detergent you use at home, magazines, newspapers from home. Be creative. MH wasn't in to theme boxes except for Halloween. I found silly things like booger candy and some of his favorites from trick or treating as a kid. I even sent him a DVD of Halloween classic movies. The guys loved them.

  • Thanks, the DVDs are a great idea!
  • Everyone loves Girl Scout cookies! Anything that reminds him of home and how much you love him will be more than enough. A deck of cards or cards against humanity might also be popular.

they send GS cookies over there for Troop to Troop... He should be able to get them from his command... my Hubby said they had tons of GS cookies over there.... He couldn't get enough of those.  Just an FYI

  • Not everyone has access to the cookies.
