Moving, need packing advice!!!

My HB and I are moving, but we don't know how soon! Our area has gotten bad and we are looking to move to a safer area. We could find something tomorrow or in a month or two. (We're renters and my landlord is aware of the problem and has agreed to let us move out when we find something! Sadly, they have no where to move us)

My question is- packing? I'd like to start now because I know we won't make it there until Christmas. My HB feels that if we have boxes that we aren't using for a certain period of time, it is stuff we do not need. On the other hand, I am a teacher and a student so most of what I would be packing is my books that I don't use every day, extra supplies, holiday items, decor items, and my formal china and porcelain. These are items I don't want to get rid of, but don't use everyday.

Thought processes? What you would do? I do plan on getting rid of quite a lot, but there are some items that aren't everyday use and want to keep that I feel really can be packed. Help and thanks!

I would start packing early. I always try to start packing as early as possible because moving always comes out of nowhere. I am someone who is selling and getting rid of all kinds of stuff I do not need so I would just make sure that if I pack something, that I would like to keep it and that it has sentimental value, and or will be used or displayed immediately upon moving.

Even better, number the boxes as well (ie. Kitchen 1, Kitchen 2, etc). Then, in a document of some type make a table with the box number, location, and a reasonable level of detail. That way later when you're looking for something, you can look on the list to find the box number/room.
