Anti-Anxiety/Anti-Depressants & Pregnancy....
I am currently taking Effexor XR (an anti-anxiety/anti-depressant medication). I have been taking it for approximately 11 years (some small breaks in that time to try others, try without, etc.) Overall I've come to the conclusion I need it and it will be a lifelong medication at this time.
I want to try and get pregnant soon. Went to Dr. today - met with NP, she said I cannot take ANY anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication while preg as the Dr won't prescribe any due to possible risks to the fetus. I was shocked. I said what do people do then? She said 'suffer through it' more or less. She said the Dr. 110% will not prescribe any of these meds while pregnant ..... I don't know what to do .... I really can NOT go without them, I don't function ..
Has anyone taken an anti-anxiety or anti-depressant while pregnant?
I plan to do some research and have a 1:1 with my Dr. but in the meantime, I'd appreciate any feedback please

Oh, and btw... It's not true that you can't take any antidepressant/anti anxiety meds while pregnant. There are risks but sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks.
However, I worked hard with therapy to no longer need the medication, and was able to get off of it after 1st trimester. At any point in the pregnancy they will allow me to get back on it if I need to.
One thing they stressed was that it's safer to have mom on the medication and mentally stable and safe, than to risk her not being on it.
