Catastrophe

That's what I had this morning as I'm getting ready to leave my house for clinical.
My toilet overflowed and the water wouldn't stop running. I try to turn the valve off at the toilet, and it's stuck. It won't go anywhere. Water is gushing out of my toilet all over the place. I throw some towels down and grab some pliers to try to turn that valve and nothing. I put more towels down. I start freaking out. I call DH's cell, no answer. I call my landlord, n answer. I freak and call my stepdad why I don't know since he's 3 hours away but it made me feel better just to talk to someone. My landlord finally calls and he tells me to go into the basement and shut the water off there. I've never been in our basement, I have no idea where the shut off is. He has no idea either. Meanwhile water is still running. I have literally all my towels on the floor. I call the school to get ahold of DH, at this time I'm literally crying I'm freaking out so badly. He walks me through shutting off the valve in the basement. I go back upstaris, finally the water stops. Landlord calls back, I say "ok I got the water off but there's like 3 inches of water on the floor". He says he's at work and can't have his phone on him but will call his wife to get her to get ahold of a plumber. DH comes home from school, he says "oh the water is not off the toilet just happend to stop running at the right moment". He turns off all the valves in the basement and there's still water running to our  bathroom. Meanwhile I'm supposed to be at clinical at the hospital and had to call my clinical supervisor and use my personal day.
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN TO ME!!!!!!!!!

Now I'm trying to clean up our floor and I have a blister from ringing out soaking wet towels before putting them in my washing machine. I can't stop crying because I'm so upset.

Re: Catastrophe

  • O man that sucks. I am so sorry honey! Hang in there it will get better.

  • The landlord got a hold of a plumber so they are out here now. They couldn't even figure out which valves in the basement shut the water off!

  • Well the plumber came and he replaced that valve at the toilet so now at least I'll be able to shut water off in the future. He snaked the toilet too. I dunno what was wrong with it. Now I'm cleaning up the giant mess that is my bathroom. I don't exactly know how to fix the floor. We don't have a dehumidifier and I'm pretty sure one should be run in there. ugh

  • They usually do a huge industrial fan. I would call your landlord about it. It's their floor that will be ruined.

  • Oh the landlord is fully aware of this situation. He was here and he looked at the floor and said to just keep our fan running on it. It's like a small regular fan, so I don't know what good it's doing. I really just don't want to have to deal with them replacing the floor.
