Re: Cystic acne treatment?

  • Hey,

I had cystic acne as a teen, and if I remember rightly I was prescribed oxytetracycline which I believe I took for about a year. It was great!

However, different people respond differently to medications. Oxy never worked for my Mum, and neither did any face creams, "spot treament"s or anything. She suffered terribly until she was 35, when she put her foot down and the doctors put her on a course of Roaccatane, which is pretty rough when it comes to side effects. The only thing I remember when she took it, was that he skin went really dry and often she'd have patches on her face where her skin was peeling...

I imagine the best solution would be to hit the docs or a dermatologist and see what they think :)

    xx
  • I took Accutane as a teen and it was a confidence-saver!  While you take it your skin dries out terribly, but SO worth it afterwards.  I still get occasional acne, but not like I used to!
