Book Club Monday

What is everyone reading?
my read shelf:
Cathy (CathyL7910)'s book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)

Re: Book Club Monday

  • I'm reading some short stories from our very own Evan!  I only had a chance to read Hatman so far, but was super impressed.  That was an awesome, creepy story.  Can't wait to get through the rest of them!
  • I've read two of Evan's stories. I totally had a nightmare about a hay ride before we went apple picking yesterday.

I'm also reading A Shot of Sultry by Macy Beckett (she is a writer over on NBC) and listening to Lola and the Boy Next Door.

These are 47-49 for the year.

  • I brought my kindle to read on my lunch break.  It's dead.  Lame.
  • Almost done losing hope, then going to start the winter sea.

  • I am still reading The Book Thief. I might read 50 Shades of Grey next. I saw a trailer for the movie so I figured it might be time. Has anyone else read it?

I couldn't finish it.  I hated 50 Shades of Grey.

I struggled with 50 shades- I read the first one then forced myself to read the second and never even had any desire to read the third( which reminds me I still have to return the third to my cousin)- I seriously thought I was the only one on the planet who was so not into the 50 shades series!- I had no problem with the subject matter I just didn't like the books!
  • Can someone point me in the direction of evan's book/ stories??? I can't seem to find it!
  • I read all of the 50 Shades in a few days. The writing is horrible and repetitive. I was obsessed and couldn't put it down. I'm excited for the movie but I don't have high hopes for it.
  • I might have lost interest because it was so reparative-( I don't remember what it was that turned me away, I just remember it taking me forever to get through them and I left the 3rd book in a pile of other books and didn't want to pick it up)

This is how I felt too.

I finally finished The Goldfinch!!! It was good, but hard to get into at the same time. I've since read Evan's book (I had a love/hate with the fact that some of the endings were open ended!!) and am now halfway through The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes. I think she's becoming a new must-read author for me!!

  • I'm in the camp of "Never reading 50 shades".

Currently I'm reading "I Could Pee on This" which is a collection of poems 'written' by cats :D

  • Ditto @catwine on 50 shades.  I don't want to sound like a snob but the phrase "inner goddess" makes me stabby.

@goatlady Thanks so much!!!  I'm glad you liked it.  My favorite stories are the last two so if any of you are feeling "meh" about the book I'd suggest reading the last two.  They're more "fun" I think.

@WillyH ahh sorry about the nightmare!  See my suggestion above ^^^ ;)

@pattysmith I'll PM you the link, sorry-I thought I'd included you in the earlier message :)

@xxjen015 My mom was so annoyed with some of my stories for the same reason, ha ha!  Sometimes when I'm writing the story kind of leads me where it "wants" to go, and I'll come to a sentence and think, "that's it, that's the end."  I try to respect that feeling, even though sometimes it's hard.  My hope is that the things people fill in with their imaginations are even better or scarier than anything I could think up!  If you ever want to know what I think happened after an ending, I'd love to discuss it with you. :)

  • @ramstein1027 I've read three of the stories now.  I've liked all of them, but now I'm excited to get to the end of it, if those are your favorites!

Walking After Midnight (the 5th story) is my favorite thing I've ever written, and Trick & Treat is just plain fun.  Hope you like them!

The family in Hayride got on my nerves.  Isn't that weird since I made them up myself?

Into the Abyss was supposed to be kind of Creepshow-esque, and I don't think it's too scary.  The first two are probably the scariest/most disturbing.

  • During the Trick or Treat I kept picturing the scene from Scream where Drew Barrymore got murdered. That remote location!

  • @ramstein1027 I just finished the book :) Into the Abyss was my favorite. I about had a heart attack reading Trick and Treat. I was reading at work and the heater kicked on in the office and I about jumped out of my skin!
