Polar Express Train

My son loved this movie last year at Christmas and I wanted to take him to the train, but by the time I looked it was sold out. Does anyone have experience with this? The only one I can find is in Ohio - is that right? Is it worth the drive? Any input is appreciated!

Re: Polar Express Train

  • We've never been, but there is also one in WV.

Looks like they still have some November dates.

  • we booked for this year for the one that goes out of cleveland for the second thursday in December. Cuyahoga scenic train or something like that.    I put a reminder on my calendar to get tickets b/c it sold out last year.  I bought them on Oct 1.   We are going from there to Michigan so its on our way.  Not sure if it will be worth it b/c its $$ but we'll see!

  • The Cuyahoga one is the one I am looking at. I think he would love it, but all the Saturdays in December are pretty picked over. I was also thinking of doing it for his birthday 12/17. Hmmm.
  •

My friend goes to the one in Maryland (I think it's about 2 hours away).:

  • They are both part of the Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad and it is picked over as well. DH and I will have to talk about it. But thanks for the suggestion!
  • yea I ran into that last year so I diaried my calendar for AUgust and then saw you couldn't order until Oct 1 so I stalked it like it was some hot concert ticket and bought that morning.  And as I was ordering the spots were whittling away so its serious business!  I'll report back and let you know if it was worth it !

  • There is also one that runs from Elkins, WV.

My parents and nephew go on one every year in NC for my nephew's birthday when my parents go to visit him. My dad says it is great. I don't know about the WV one but I have friends who rave about the Cuyahoga one.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I might have to mark Oct. 1 on next year's calendar!!
  • My dad would adore this! I may have to consider it for him and the boys for next year. Those who do it definitely post reviews!

Sarah, I definitely would look into it. My parents really enjoy going with my nephew. They have probably gone since he was about 4 and he will be 9 in December. They did an afternoon one when he was younger but started doing the evening the year he turned 6. It even snowed one year which in NC is odd.
