Which Leap Pad do you recommend?

I know many of you have mentioned Leap Pads as a great toy for the 3-5 age range.  Madeline will be 4 in January.  Which version do you have?  I found a Leap Pad 2 bundle on clearance at Target yesterday for $ 40.  I think that was a pretty good deal but the online reviews are mixed.  Leap Pad Ultra?  Leap Pad 2 Power?

Re: Which Leap Pad do you recommend?

  • we have the original leap pad for Jake (which obviously isn't sold anymore) and got Liam the Leap Pad 2 last year for christmas.  What are the online reviews saying?  we haven't had any issues with ours.  the $40 deal seems like a good price, what does it come with?

  • We have the Leap pad 2 power (I think).  It comes with a rechargeable battery.   It doesn't hold a charge for nearly as long as advertised but it's fine.

The bundle comes with the case, some toys/ wallpapers, and a $ 20 download credit towards apps.  The reviews are that the lack of Wi-Fi makes it a pain to download the apps and it blows through batteries.

  • Ours doesn't have wifi, but we don't download many apps (I think I received a credit for filling out a survey when I first bought it, so I downloaded that app....that's been it!)  I use rechargable batteries that I bought myself, and they last a decent amount of time.  I couldn't tell you an exact length, but enough that I charge them every other week or so.

  • We have the power one.  (Grandpa bought it....) It does not have WiFi.  We def. weren't ready for him to have access.  DH did the apps, but as far as I can tell you just plug it in to the computer.  NBD.  And it holds the charge OK.  Several hours at least.  I just make sure I charge it before we take it anywhere.  S is really starting to like it lately.
