FBC: Read a Book About a Family - All Souls: A Family Story From Southie

For this FBC task I read All Souls: A Family Story From Southie by Michael Patrick MacDonald.  It's an autobiographical book about growing up in South Boston in the 1970's and 80's.  He talks about how the crime and drug use of the era decimated the neighborhood, including his own family, but how no one was willing to discuss it because the worst thing you could be in Southie was a snitch.

His family was very different than mine.  I grew up in a stable two-parent home in suburban New York and only have one sibling.  The author grew up with a single mom and ten siblings in the projects in Southie.  I thought he did a good job painting a picture of the neighborhood and the era, but I felt he could have had a tighter narrative.  Still, an overall good book.
