Who Drinks Tea?

What's your favorite kind of tea?  Now that the weather is getting colder I feel the need to always have a hot drink in my hand.  I'm not a coffee drinker, and my waistline does not support my love of hot chocolate.  I've been drinking the fruity green teas, but I feel they leave a weird after taste in my mouth.  I'm looking to branch out so...

What's your favorite kind of tea?

Can you describe the flavor?

Re: Who Drinks Tea?

  • I am a big fan of Bigelow's Constant Comment. It has clove and orange in it and always warms me up. I also like Earl Grey, but don't know how to describe the flavor. I would recommend Bigelow or Twinings brand. They are readily available at the grocery store.
  • I don't unless I'm sick, but my husband does every night. He likes Earl Grey, English Breakfast (I think both of those he gets Twinings) or he likes Red Rose tea bags. I think they're pretty basic flavors - he's not much of a fruity guy.

I've also had vanilla tea that was nice:)

Earl Grey and Lady Grey (black tea flavored with bergamont oil, and other citrus flavors. Lady is more mildly flavored), English Breakfast (just a black tea blend),

Herbals- peppermint, the Celestial Seasons fruit "zinger" teas.  Celestial Seasons Honey Vanilla Camomile,
  • I am a tea drinker.  It gets so cold in my office.  I have to have something warm most of the time.

I like to mix it up, depending on my mood.

Bigelow's Raspberry Royale is a favorite of mine.  (It's not a red hibiscus tea....its a black tea w/rasp. flavor.  I am not a fan of hibiscus, so things like Raspberry Zinger are out.)  I can drink it without any sugar or sweetner, which is a waistline plus!

Bigelow's French Vanilla Caramel was also VERY good, and I also really like the Plantation Mint.  (It's more spearmint than peppermint.)

Bigelow Teas are frequently on sale at GE, etc.

Earl Grey with honey is a good go to.

Peppermint tea is good for digestion, and a good go to.  Usually its caffeine free, which makes it a good option.

A year or two ago my friends and I found a Groupon for a Tea Shop in Squirrel Hill - Margaret's Fine Imports.  It was fun!   Of course they poo-pooed tea in bags in favor of loose teas, but we still got to try a number of teas, which at least was helpful in figuring out what I liked!

Teavana also has tea samples if you happen to live by a store.  They are pretty $$$ though, both for cups of tea, and for loose leaf tea.  I've found much better luck at Presto Georgo in the Strip, and the shop in Sq. Hill.
  • Gwen-I'm the same way, only when I'm sick!

We drink a ton of tea, way more than coffee. I grew up drinking tea with my grandmother.

    Earl Grey
    Lady Grey (twinings or loose)
Green Tea, plain or with honey
    Irish Breakfast (twinings or loose)

My husband's favorite is Russian Caravan, it is way to smoky and dark for me. It reminds me of expensive pipe tobacco in smell.

my mom and siblings love Bencheley's cherry vanilla. My dad's aunt used to own a coffee store and they got hooked years ago. I am not a fan of fruit flavored teas.

I agree with Prestogeorge. I do like loose leaf tea and they have a huge selection that is sold by the pound. Get a tea ball or spoon and your good to go. We keep it in mason jars. But I do use bags at work, right now it is Tazo Green Tea Tips.

  • Thanks for all the insight!

Denalea--the french vanilla caramel sounds awesome!

  • I second the french vanilla caramel, it's so good. I drink their lemon lift with honey when I'm sick.

Last year I got a Celestial Seasonings holiday sampler pack for Christmas and it's really good. I can't remember the names of the flavors offhand, but there are 4 and they are all good: a cookie something, a holiday spice one, sugar plum something, and a 4th one that I can't recall at all. 2 are black teas, and 2 are herbal so they are decaf
  • Republic of Tea Ginger Peach is the best that I have had recently.

Have you been to Margaret's tea shop?  She has a lot of good stuff.
