Seems I post something similar every 6 months. Dd is back to having accidents again. She had been doing well for a while with just a spell of overnight accidents in the summer. But now we are back to daytime ones. They aren't huge accidents but enough to change underwear/leggings. The past couple weeks I swear it has happened most days.

Is this normal? I never thought we would still be dealing with frequent accidents in 1st grade. I understand the rare accident but it's like she goes through phases of daily ones.

Should I take her to the dr? I ask her about it and she always tells me she doesn't like going potty. But she doesn't ever admit to it hurting. I think she is just stubborn and would rather play than go potty. But I guess there could be something else going on.

If it isn't a medical issue what can I do? We have been dealing with this for 4 years!!! Every year I think that this will be it and after this accident phase we will be good but then a few months later we are back to it. It's so frustrating! I don't want her to feel bad about it but I am legitimately worried about her being made fun of. Kids are cruel and this could absolutely cause teasing issues. Last week she had an accident and her "friend" told a couple boys about it and dd was embarrassed and upset. Thankfully it doesn't sound like they made fun of her but I feel like it's just a matter of time if she keeps this up. But the embarrassment didn't help because she had an accident over the weekend and yesterday at after school.

  • Will be watching this post because T is exactly the same. Only sometimes they are #2 accidents. :-/ He just had one last night between pumpkin carving and dinner...

I'm giving him a little leeway since he just started K, but it SUCKS!

Ugh! We definitely had a phase a while ago of #2. Thankfully it's pretty much #1.

Did often had accidents around transitions so could be starting K for him. I guess it could be starting 1st for dd...but she was fine at the start of the year and now it's started back up.

  • I don't think it would hurt to take her to the doctor.  I have a cousin who said it always feels like she has to go to the bathroom, so she had frequent accidents growing up.  She couldn't make the distinction that she had to go.

She went through a bunch of tests and saw specialists, but they said nothing was abnormal.  She just had to get in the habit of going frequently.
