Re: Kitchen Decorating Ideas

  • Hi,

I think before you start buying furniture and dining table I would make sure to find out what colors would go well with your wall color and floor color.  I would start by picking out a piece to use as a focal point first like an art work that has a bit of the golden and pinkish color in it and then pull colors from the art work.  The art work could be the unifying piece for your decor.  I would stay away from anything with a golden tone to it because you already have alot of it in the space.  As for colors I would go with green to compliment your colors and the floor.  I would go with a dark color for the dining table and and for dining chair I would go with upholstered chairs in white linen and if you want to add a bit of color you could use the same chairs in a green colored fabric in cotton or linen, no suede.
  • Right now you have wood tones- anything goes with wood besides another wood color that might clash- and black countertops- which work with anything but brown.

Literally any color- not necessarily neutral- would work.  I'd replace the brass chandelier with brushed nickel to match your knobs.

  • Check out the Behr Ultra color: Antique Earth. It is a brown color, but I think it may make your counter/white trim/cabinets pop. It's in the deeper brown family - not red tone.

I agree with PP to change out your chandelier to a brushed nickel. Try www.lightingdirect.com or www.lampsplus.com

I would actually start with a fabric for your door and kitchen window. Since they are so close together, I would use the same material in both places. I am partial to the look of a full drapery rod, hung higher than the door frame - even with the height of the cabinet tops. Then do the same rod type above the kitchen window. Use drapery panels. They are so easy to cut to the length you need. Resew the hems to your needed length or hot glue the bottoms if you don't sew (hot glue is an easy alternative to sewing and it works great as long as you keep the glue neat and not bubbled up under the material).

You could do a rug beneath the table. A lot of indoor/outdoor rugs are being shown now in eating spaces due to their durability and clean-up ease. www.ballarddesigns.com or www.homedecorators.com

  • To add: You could get a pair of counter height stools for your island. Try Pier 1 or look on Craigslist.
