Thanksgiving menu?

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year.   And while I will be making mostly traditional sides, I keep searching for something 'different.'  If you started thinking about TDay yet, what's on your menu?

p.s.  This will be my first time hosting a Holiday meal.  Wish me luck!

Re: Thanksgiving menu?

  • Good luck with your first one!!!!

I don't host, my husband's aunt does.  She always requests me to make corn spoon bread as one of the sides. Its like a corn bread type casserole. its DELICIOUS :)

They usually have all the traditional sides as well.

  • I'm in charge of bringing a side dish and I tried out a whole bunch of creative looking recipes an hated all of them!  I ended up with sweet potato casserole with a pecan topping.  I'm also in charge of bring a before dinner cocktail, and I'm making Glogg, which is a hot drink and super delicious.
  • We usually host, but not this year as we're in the process of moving into our house.

    Last year I did:
Appetizers: shrimp cocktail, veggie plate, cheese/pepperoni/crackers, pineapple/walnut/cream cheese dip
Dinner: turkey, chorizo stuffing (my MIL makes this), mashed potatoes, goat cheese mashed sweet potatoes, green beans w/ mushrooms & bacon, maple glazed carrots (this is a favorite), cranberry sauce & rolls
Dessert: apple pie (my Mom makes this), chocolate chip cookie pie (MIL brings this), pumpkin cheesecake w/ salted caramel sauce

Since it's just H & I this year I'm thinking of doing a stuffed turkey breast, his Mom's chorizo stuffing (it wouldn't be Thanksgiving for H without it) and either the green beans/mushrooms/bacon or maple glazed carrots.

Maybe keep it simple for your first time and try one creative dish.

  • @GABride2010 I thought about that, but that all depends on how hectic my work week will be.  Think I will keep it simple, and focus on enjoying the time with my family.

Thank you for all the suggestions guys!  I'll let you know hoe everything turns out =)

  • Dinner turned out really good, all the stress for nothing!  =)   I took your advice and did simple.   I was off with timing by maybe 15 minutes? No biggie.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
