Holiday Cards

Since we just got married and I have done countless thank you cards from the shower and wedding gifts, I am not interested in hand writing in each Christmas card that we send out.  We always get the cute ones of people's kids during the holidays.  Is it cheesy to make one with our picutre on it, even though we are childless?  I was thinking maybe do one of our wedding pictures, but I don't want people to think it is weird to get a picture card without munchkins.

Be the change you want to see in the world!

Re: Holiday Cards

  • you could totally do that!  ive done that for quite a few years. its usually us and our two furbabies.  The only reason i'm not doing it this year is to try and cut back on costs.

  • I think it's fine, especially with a wedding photo since you will most likely send these cards to folks who attended the wedding. When DH and I bought our house we took a picture of us in front and did a photo greeting card for Christmas that year. Last year we scaled way back and sent cards to a few family members and returned cards to those who sent us one. Helps keep costs down.

We used CVS for our photocard. I've heard good things about Walgreens and Shutterfly too, I think they have a lot of coupons.
  • I've gotten plenty of photo cards from childless couples. Especially with wedding photos, since not everyone on people's Christmas card list attended the wedding or has met the new spouse (if they live far away).

I've never thought twice about a couple-only photo.

  • I do not like picture Christmas cards because they come across as AWish and nothing to do with Christmas (ie. if you want to wish me a Merry Christmas, why are you showing me a picture of yourself?  Makes no sense, IMO).  If you have a fur baby, though, I would love a holiday themed card of you dog, cat, or whatever.

I find photo cards super AWish, and would seriously side-eye one without a handwritten note.

  • I have received photo cards with wedding pics and I love it! I vote to go for it.
  • Slight differing opinion-I like photo cards even for childless couples (we did one last year and get them from many friends) but think the wedding photo makes it a touch AWish. It's not the end of the world, but if you do it I'd limit your list to wedding guests/invitees. If it's a non-wedding photo I'm 100% cool with it, but PPs responses show this is not universal opinion. Nobody who sends us cards hand writes messages, but perhaps it is more common in other circles.
  • Photo cards are NOT only for people with kids.  And I like them.  A lot of cards that I get are from people I hardly see - if at all.  It's nice to see a picture of how they look.  I don't find it AWish at all.

And even if you use a wedding picture, I don't see a problem.  It was a big event in your life and I would expect that people who weren't invited would like to see you in your dress.

FWIW, I side-eye anyone who side-eyes someone else for sending a card. Your friend or family member is thinking about you at the holidays and put at least some effort into addressing and mailing a card.
Thank you!   The fact that people will now judge what KIND of card is sent... wow.
  • I personally don't like getting photo Christmas cards with just a couple. It is not my style and I would never do it, but, to each is there own.  I don't mind them with kids on them, but, I like at least having the personal touch that they were personally signed.  I feel guilty throwing the photo cards out after Christmas.  However, I do enjoy receiving the pictures of the kiddies in the cards and then, I keep them on my fridge all year round!

I also agree with this. I'd rather get a photo card from someone I hardly see/hear from than nothing. Makes me feel like they still think of me once and a while.

Could you add a more personal touch to the back of some of them even just a hope things are well to the ones who didn't go to the wedding?

^^^^ All this. I had no idea there were so many ways to judge someone else's card sending. I'm just so damn happy to get something that isn't a bill or junk mail.
  • I see nothing wrong with sending a photo Christmas card without kids, however, I think you should personally sign them all.

  • You can definitely do that! I did that with my husband before we had children. Our pictures varied, one time was a wedding photo and the others were usually pictures from vacations. I think it's nice when people send out cards, even without kids. It's good to see them, especially if it's someone I haven't seen a while. Where would you get yours made? I use Shutterfly for my christmas photo cards and they're great!
