Re: QOTD 11/21

  • I went to church camp, swim camp, and cheer camp four times.

The church camp was the most fun because we did all kinds of outdoorsy/hiking-type stuff and also because I wasn't surrounded by obnoxious cheerleaders.

  • I went to a day camp for a week most summers when I was a kid. It was the same every year...we went to the lake 2 days, to the pool 2 days, and to a local amusement park 1 day. It stunk if it was a rainy day, then we were stuck inside watching movies and making friendship bracelets.

  • Nope.  Summer is goat showin' season.  I spent most of my time at fairs and club shows.
  • I went once to a week camp trip but it was during the school year.  I never went to summer camp 1) because my mom was a SAHM, 2) we weren't financially able to, and 3) I didn't really have any interest in going.  Most of my friends lived in our neighborhood, so we'd just all hang out together and have fun that way.

ETA - I went to music/fine arts camp every year from 7th grade until the summer after I graduated high school. And, then went on to work there during the summers while I was in college.

OMG goats HATE getting wet!  That's too funny.  There is no way mine would ever do that.  That is one cool goat.
  • Oh god yes, I did Girl Scout camp every summer for 10 years, and then once I got old enough, I worked there for another 5. I only stopped when I finished college and my grad school program made me take summer classes. My camp has since closed for budget reasons and I am super sad about it. :(

  • Yep...church camp and vacation bible school for about 3 or 4 years.  Then I went to youth church camp for 2 years and still volunteered with VBS as a teenager.  I sang on the music team and ws a group leader.

  • Let's see.... (apologies for length)

Earliest I can think of was probably bible school at one of the camp/picnic grounds in the area while I was in grade school. I did meet my first childhood crush there, so it wasn't all that bad.

I was chosen to participate in a day camp type program when I was in 7th grade. We got bused out to a campground nearby. During the mornings, we'd work on school type stuff (reading/essays, math, etc.) Then, the rest of the day was spent doing legit camp stuff like arts and crafts and being outside. You got participatory points for how much stuff you did and how well you did on the school type items. Whoever had so many points by the end of the session got to participate in a sleepover at the campsite for one night. It was quite fun.

Lastly, four years of band camp during high school. We went to a camp about ten or twenty minutes out from where I currently live and stayed the week. We'd work on marching drills and be outside most of the morning and into the day. We also got to go swim and relax for a bit before working on music inside at night. During one of the last nights we were there, the parents would pay for us to have pizza delivered and we'd get to have a dance and turn it into a mini senior night event for whoever was graduating that upcoming school year. By far, some of my favorite high school memories were from those four weeks.

  • I went to a girls' sleep away camp once.  It was alright, the girls were a little snobby though.

For about 5 years I went to hockey camp in Canada.  I loved it.  I looked forward to it from the day I got home.  I still keep in touch with many of my friends from camp.  I would go back in a heartbeat if I could.
  • I did a week long band camp 1 year with the high school marching band but other than that I only did day camp when we were younger.
