TOTW problems. Need new dog food?

My sweet GSP mix Scout has been on TOTW Wetlands since we adopted him a little over a year ago. About a month ago, he started vomiting a couple hours after every meal. We had recently started a new bag, but I didn't really think anything of it since he had been on it so long. Anyhow, after several trips to the vet and starting him on Benadryl & Tagamet, he seems to be doing okay. They had X-rayed his stomach and didn't see any obstructions. They thought it was stress related but that didn't make sense to me. I was feeding him plain chicken & white rice. Once I slowly started incorporating the TOTW back into his diet, he had been throwing up again, with amounts in direct correlation to the amount of dog food.   Does anyone now if their formula changed? If we switch to a new dog food, do you have any recommendations? I am thinking Orijen might be my next choice.

I don't know if TOTW has changed their formula, but I've seen similar things happen to others (start a new bag of food, and their pup has gastrointestinal issues).  I have been feeding Wellness Core to my pups for the last 6 years and have been very happy with it.  Of course, every dog is different, and a food that works for one won't necessarily work for another.  However, when comparing foods, I did note that Wellness Core and TOTW are very similar in their guaranteed analysis, so the one time we ran out of Wellness Core before our next shipment arrived, I grabbed a bag of TOTW from our local pet boutique (they don't sell Wellness Core).  My pups did fine on it.  I've heard that Orijen is also a very high quality food.  GL!

The guaranteed analysis may be similar but they are entirely different foods. Wellness is actually much more balanced and has a lower (and better) fat content than TOTW.


I recommend the complete health line.

Thanks! I actually emailed the company. They let me know that they had changed their probiotic. I actually switched him to Precise Naturals and he is doing really well on it so far.

Glad you found something that's working for your pup!

I was going to recommend Acana (made by Champion pets - same makers of Orijen but a little less pricey).  My dogs have done extremely well on it (sensitive stomach and allergies - I also had a dog with terminal cancer that thrived on it during the remainder of her life) and they do have 'limited ingredient' diets that are new for sensitive dogs.

I will have to check Acana out. The Orijen was out of my price range. I am willing to pay well for good dog food, but I feel like they are plenty of good foods out there at a better price.
