Catering: South Hills

Looking to have a small (10-15 people) birthday party catered in December. I am more than willing to pick up the food, or better yet, have it delivered. Does anyone have any recommendations? I considered Jimmy Johns, Pittsburgh Barbecue, Armstrongs but my husband wasn't crazy about those ideas.

Re: Catering: South Hills

  • What is your price range?  What is your menu?

I know of a yummy caterer who does some higher-end stuff, but she make be booked for Dec. by now.  She works out of Beaver and Cranberry Twp, but she may travel, esp. just for a drop off (not set-up serving, etc.)   LMK if you want her info.

If you're looking for sandwich rings and cold cut trays and the like, we've had good luck with DiBellas subs.  Giant Eagle usually has some yummy options, and I would bet Market District would be good, too.   I'm not a BBQ fan, but Flame is tasty.  (I was not so much a fan of the Pgh BBQ Co when I had it at a wedding...)

Moes will cater, including delivery.  When I did it about a year ago, a taco bar came to about $10/person for about 10 ppl, and there was a lot of food.  Chips, Meats, beans, toppings, etc.  I think Guac. and Queso were extra, which we didn't do, but you could add those, or make/buy your own.  There was enough lettuce that you could do tacos (hard or soft) and some could make salads.  Again, you could have some back up of your own to supplement for taco salads.  Yum.  I love Moes.

What about an Italian place for Meatball subs and the like?  I'm not sure what is in the South.

Whatever you decide, have fun, and enjoy!
  • Thank you so much for the suggestions. We are thinking more casual and plan on looking into DiBella's and Flame!

Market District does a really nice job and will deliver for a fee.

Flame is in the North Hills on Babcock Blvd in Shaler so that may not be a great option for the South Hills. But if you are looking for BBQ, Two Brothers on Thoms Run in Presto (it is close to Trader Jacks for reference) may be an opton. I have been to a catered event an it is delicious. I have also had lunch there several times (DH ate there all the time when he worked at CV).

    Mad Mex also does catering.

  • I was going to suggest Mad Mex or Market District, I've used both and have been very happy with them.  Mad Mex you'd have to pick up, but Market District delivers for a small fee ($20, maybe?)  I'm also a huge Boston Market fan; I haven't used them personally for catering though.

    Good luck!!

  • Rowdy BBQ on 51 has good food too.  When we lived closer we would pick it up often.
  • My cousin always uses Rowdy's for catering. The mac and cheese is SO good!

  • Boston Market does a nice job too. They will deliver for a fee. We use them for our Christmas party at work every year and it is always good.

I love their food and the owners are great!

  • Thanks so much for all of the suggestions! We ended up using Two Brother's and it was amazing!
