Room temperature appetizers

DH and I will be having a Christmas party in a couple of weeks. We want to do heavy hors d' oeuvres and try some new recipies. Any suggestions for items we can leave out and not worry about keeping warm?  We will have veggies and dip, a cheese and meat tray and I found a recipe for beet salad on a stick.

Re: Room temperature appetizers

  • I always make buffalo chicken dip. It's a hot app but tastes good even as it cools down. Whenever I make it, it goes pretty quickly anyways! I'm requested to bring it to functions all the time.

Other than that I usually do cheese/crackers which you have covered. What about fruit? We make a yummy Kaluha fruit dip to go with it. It's cream cheese, cool whip, sugar, vanilla and Kaluha. It's always a big hit too. At kid parties I leave out the kaluha and it's yummy too. Also can use food coloring to make it festive!

  • Bruschetta-you can buy the mini toasts or you can use french bread and the Delallo pre made toppings are really good, I like the roasted red pepper one

Meatballs in a crockpot  you can do different dipping sauces or moroccan or greek style are a yummy twist to the ordinary meatball and the crockpot keeps them warm with no fuss

Beef tenderloin with small toasts, caramelized onions and horseradish sauce--tastes good warm and cold so of if it chills off

  • I do bruschetta 'skewers' - I take a sparkly drink mixer (the plastic sticks - I think near straws?) and thread on a grape tomato, a couple cooked cheese tortellini and a bocconcini (mini mozzarella ball). You can repeat if you want or just do it once. I then lay all of them in a pan and drizzle with garlic infused olive oil. You could also sprinkle with fresh basil if you like. Easy and tasty!
  • I love appetizer parties!  The past two years we've done a Black Friday party for DH's family and it has been all apps and desserts.  Some stuff I served warm, but then just let cool off as it did...I didn't serve anything I was worried about spoiling.

One of my favorites, and so easy is to wrap asparagus in prosciutto and grill it for just a few minutes.  I then served it with a basalmic drizzle.  Good warm or room temp.
