Right now I am in a job that I am growing to hate with a passion, I have been looking for jobs on a daily basis but I find myself facing the reality that I may need to complete my Bachelor of Commerce to be able to get any kind of respectable position. Right now I am working as an AP Clerk but being treated more like a mindless assistant with no actual responsibility. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I completed 3 years of college to get an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration Accounting and graduated at the top of my class. Sadly this seems to mean almost nothing as I find myself making the same wage as positions being advertised for people fresh out of high school! I was lucky enough to make it through college with a scholarship and only have $1500 in loans to pay. I can barely even pay the bills with what I earn and a part time job is very hard to find in my area.
Everywhere I look people are asking for Bachelor degrees as a minimum requirement for work and my advanced diploma falls short of that requirement. My program coordinator had given me a booklet for a correspondence university that accepts a block credit transfer from my program and I would basically just need to do a year of schooling (or 2 part time) to get my degree.
As the days pass the more I yearn to get my degree – and time is running out for this opportunity. I only have a year or so to be able to register for the program before my block credit transfer eligibility expires.
I have no idea what to do. The government loan program (OSAP) won’t give me anything (even relief from loan payments) if I only go part time, I need to commit full time. But to get the full time funding I would need to quit my job – which I feel is losing valuable experience at this point in my career. The other option is to go part time while working full time and get student loans through my bank. But as I have no cosigner (my mother doesn’t believe in that) I feel my odds are slim – my credit score is great but I feel my lack of income may deter them from loaning me money, which means I will never get a bachelors.
Any advice on what to do? Any experiences to share?
