Did anyone watch Peter Pan Live?

Ok, so I admit I feel asleep at about 9:45, but from what I saw I thought it was going well.  I was not loving Christopher Walken's Captain Hook though. But, I can't really put my finger on why.   I will have to find it on demand and finish watching it.  What did everybody else think?

Re: Did anyone watch Peter Pan Live?

  • We recorded it for DD, because there was no way she was staying up to watch it until 11. So we will watch it tonight, she was really excited for it.
  • We watched the first half hour instead of reading books. Not sure when we will watch the rest, but we will eventually. Allison Williams is no triple threat, but seemed to be a solid performer. She's no Mary Martin, but who is? :-)

  • I taped it for the boys and I to watch this weekend. They can't make it until 11 (I barely stay up that late myself). I'm excited to watch it.

I watched the Mary Martin video on repeat as a kid.

  • I thought it was good, but not great. I stayed up to watch the whole thing and enjoyed it. I liked Allison Williams better than I thought I would. I also thought Christopher Walken seem 1/2 dead 90% of the show. I wish he would have had more "oomph" in his performance. I do hope they do another musical next year and keep up with this tradition!

You said it perfectly!  He was missing "oomph".  I agree, I hope they do it again next year.  I think it's a great tradition and something I can actually show my kids.

  • Meh. I think I just don't like the show no matter who does it. Perhaps it's from the thousands of times my sister made us watch the Mary martin version. :) I was so bored halfway through. Next show is going to be the music man.

I feel about Music Man the way you feel about Peter Pan. I heard the music man rumor, but hadn't seen it confirmed.

I'd love to see the next live show be Fiddler on the Roof! But that may be too long a show to feasibly do in 3 hours.

  • Someone alert me when they do a live version of Grease, please.

  • We watched it Friday (taped) b/c it was so long.  It was... ok.  Admittedly I don't remember seeing the Mary Martin version and may not have seen the entire version ever so it wasn't anything great.    I though Walken was a weak Hook, the sound was off & it was hard to hear him.  But I do like watching live performances so I'd watch anything they put on.

But my real question is - are the lost boys supposed to be that old?  I mean they looked like high school/college aged and the whole mom thing to Wendy was sort of creepy.  I pictured them as 8-10 yr old boys?  Those guys could have got an apartment and lived on their own!

Dh and I said the same thing about the lost boys.  They made the 2 real little boys look out of place.

And my 5 year old's review of Captain Hook, "He looks old..."
