What are you baking for the Holidays?

I always make carrot cake cupcakes with cream cheese/coconut frosting, and sugar cookies.  Can't wait! =)

Re: What are you baking for the Holidays?

  • I'm also planning on making sugar cookies (they are my favorite). I will probably also make gingerbread cookies. Who knows what else!

@HoneyBee973‌ Would you mind sharing your sugar cookie recipe? I have yet to find a really amazing one. Thanks!

  • Wish I had a great recipe @GABride2010 I always find random recipes I try, hoping to find 'the one'
  • We're a GF and rice free household, so baking is tough.  I'm actually a terrible baker- I always miss a step.  I'll be making a poppyseed cake for sure and chocolate chip cookies.
  • I bake quite a bit this time of year!  I stick to pretty much the same ones each year for tradition purposes. I always baked with my mom growing up, then she found out she had celiac's disease awhile back so now i do all the baking for Christmas.

Thumb cookies (these have the jam in the center)
    Spritz cookies
Tea cookies (which is like a sugar/shortbread)
Butternut Balls (some people call these snowballs)
    Peanut Butter Fudge (GF)
    Peppermint patties (GF)

I agree @HoneyBee973‌! @chrisnjay05212010‌ your baking list sounds amazing. I will have to Google Spritz cookies...I have never heard of them before.

ETA: Spritz cookies sound amazing, and it will give me a chance to use my cookie press that we got as a wedding present that I've never used!

  • @HoneyBee973- thank you!!!! this is the only time of year that i do that much baking.  I do some other stuff through out the year but not like this.  Plus i bake alot because i take them to work, give them to people and my husband takes them to his police dept, besides dessert on Christmas eve and day.

@GABride2010- thank you too!!!  the Spritz to me are like a sugar/butter cookie.  I'd be happy to share our recipe if you like.  We've been using the same recipe since i was a kid. My mom actually gave me her cookie press (which is electric) since she doesnt use it anymore.  I dont know what i would do if the thing died on me. You cant find them like i have anymore!!!

And honestly girls- the fudge and peppermint patties are EASY!!!!

  • I usually make fudge and candied almonds. I'm not much of a baker and fudge is hard to mess up. Sometimes I'll make cookies for work.

I've never made this, but a girl on my wedding month board shared this recipe for sugar cookies. She makes them with a cream cheese frosting.

    2 1/2 cups flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    Pinch of Salt
    1 cup butter
    1 1/4 cups sugar
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla

Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cream butter and sugar well. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients. Chill in the refrigerator at least 4 hours. Work with cool dough. Roll out thin on a floured board. Bake at 400 degrees for 5 or 6 minutes until lightly brown around edges. This dough is very short and must be rolled gently so it will not stick. Makes about 5 dozen.

  • @GABride2010- here you go!!!

    Spritz Cookies-
    1 cup butter (salted)
    3/4 cup sugar
    3 egg yolks
    1 tbsp vanilla
    1/8 tsp salt (pinch)
    2 1/4 cup flour

Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks and vanilla.  Then mix in flour. Refrigerate dough for 20 mins then go ahead with cookie press and decorate as you like. Sprinkles before you bake.  Bake at 350º for golden brown- about 10 mins or less.
