Gift help

I'm struggling to come up with gifts for my parents.  I have pictures of the kids for them as usual, but need something else as well.  I run into this struggle every year for my dad.  My mom usually gives me some ideas, but this year she's out.  I have a few ideas for my  mom, but am holding out in case a wonderful "together" gift strikes me.

What are you getting your parents for Christmas?

Re: Gift help

  • My dad wanted a Dremel, he is done.

My mom is a question mark. We are probably going to get her a nice scarf and some gift cards for mani/pedi at the salon she get her hair done at. I can grab them when I go to my appt. next week.

  • My parents are getting a gift card to one of their favorite restaurants, snapfish calendar of the kids, and a chocolate covered pretzel/oreo/apple gift basket as their "together" gifts.  I got my mom a pair of earrings & PJs and i'll pick up something for my dad, too (most likely beer)

  • Oh and my in laws are getting very similar gifts, except instead of beer for my FIL, he's getting a subscription to 2 magazines (it was a gift bundle I bought from a fundraiser)...I think Field & Stream and Outdoor Adventure or something like that.  does your dad have any hobbies that a magazine would go along wtih?

  • I did a lot of tickets to events this year.  Maybe a GC for the Pgh Cultural trust or something?  Unless you know them well enough to purchase tix to a specific show....I know Phantom is coming, and Motown is showing RIGHT after Christmas.  My mom got DH and I tix to the holiday Cirque du Solei.  It will be a surprise for DH.  He is going to be so excited.  He loves Cirque and all things large-production.  My sis is coming too and has never seen a Cirque show, so it should be fun!
  • This year, we are getting our mom perfume and a spa gift card.  My dad is getting some things from Denver University (where my sister works) and a barnes and noble gift card.  This is what they asked for, so we didn't have to come up with any ideas.  My brother, sister, and I all go in on the gifts together.

In the past we've gone with gift cards to a restauraunt they like or tickets to a show...beer brewing kit or good steaks for my dad...spa stuff or jewelry for my mom (she wanted an origami owl necklace one year), etc.

  • Would they like a long weekend somewhere? My parents usually ask us for money to go to Geneva on the Lake for a weekend.

  • We sent my one set of in-laws to a B&B in Sharon last year.  Called the b&b and got a gift certificate for a night's stay.  They never travel so they liked it.  The other set we got an ipad but they travel to Florida so we wanted to facetime them.  This year we'll probably do something similar for the one (night's stay) and gift cards for the other for flights or dinners out.  I find both very hard to buy for & we end up spending way more than I would normally like but they help us alot so I can't complain!

  • Last year we got my in laws really nice folding chairs from costco. they are wooden and padded. they were like $25 each. they do a lot of hosting and have to use crappy folding chairs and since we had no other ideas we bought them 4 of these.

this year my mother in law asked for a nice pie plate (who would have thought?)...so i'm going to get her a pretty one online.

i also think Scentsy is a nice gift. its like a candle but it melts the wax with a warmer or lightbulb instead of a flame. if you are looking to buy one let me know- i work with someone who sells.
