Breaking up with my hairdresser (need North recommendations)

I have been going to the same person for nearly a decade.  I am driving back into the city for both my appointments and for the kid's cuts but I think it is time to find a new salon closer to home.  I am one of those full salon people.  I need cut, color, highlights, and ideally keratin treatments.

Please recommend your hair dresser/salon North of the city.  Cranberry/Wexford/Mars preferred

If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd love a ball park of how much you pay for a cut/color/highlights. I think I was seriously overpaying.

Lastly, would you explain to hairdresser why you are leaving?  I am actually FB friends with her and her daughter.  It makes for a sticky situation.  I did give her a big Christmas bonus as I was already intending this to be my last appointment with her but I chickened out of saying I would not be back.

  • A lot of girls go to Studio Raw on Babcock and love it.

I go to Hats Off. I have been going to the owner for a long time (30+ years) but she has a lot of other great stylist. They are actually moving to McCandless Crossing in April, they are currently in Andre Plaza (on the hill by Northway Mall). I pay $90 for cut, color, and eyebrow wax. If we highlight it is about $120 for cut and color. The other girls make their own pricing, so I can't speak for them. Besides Sharon I would totally recommend Maggie or Lizzie.

I am one that goes to Studio Raw, and I see Missy. I've only been going since the summer, but I've been very impressed. Heather has been to see her once as well. Her cut was $25.

I think my cut/highlights/blowout was $145. I didn't shop around for price. My hair is trickier than one would expect for straight, brown hair, and I had been going to Supercuts since I was laid off...

  • I go to Missy at Studio RAW, too. I know of at least two other Nesties that see her, probably more. :) I pay around $100 for cut and color - not highlights, then it is usually a little more. They can provide the services you are looking for and more. They also added a spa when they had to rebuild. As far as the explanation for your current stylist, I would imagine that she might understand that driving into the city is less than ideal. Good luck!

This!  It's not like you are leaving because she does a crappy job.  That would be more awkward.

  • Thank you ladies-  sounds like I know where I need to go.  I love that they will have a spa!  I am paying nearly double the prices you all mentioned.

  • I also go to Missy at Studio Raw. For cut, color, and highlights it is around $140, I think. I really like Missy because she is honest and gives suggestions. Also, Studio Raw has a reception area with wine and cupcakes. It doesn't get better than that! :)
  • Another missy at studio raw vote!!!

  • My kids and I go to Studio Raw as well. Since I don't have a ton of hair, I just color it myself. :) But my haircuts are $40 plus tip. Kids are usually $10-20 depending on what she does.

  • So first off - I highly recommend Missy at Studio Raw. She's awesome!!

Second - I had to break up with my hairdresser and it was her:P Absolutely no fault of hers, it was just a long drive and we had to cut back budget wise, so that was something to go. I FB messaged her and just told her what was up. She was incredibly gracious, said she completely understood and it was/is all good:) I still pop in occasionally for a manicure or if I want to splurge, get my hair done, and it's always still great.
  • Well...just booked an appointment with Missy...thanks for the suggestions ladies!
