Presents!

What did you get that you loved? What did you get that you didn't love? Any fun surprises?

H got me a monogram necklace that I picked out. It's a lot bigger than jewelry I normally wear so I need to get used to it. I wore it to work the other day and felt like it was "WHAM IN YOUR FACE" even though I got compliments on it.

From family I got a Jets football jersey, a mini muffin pan, a teal decorative tray, a metal decorative bowl, ornaments.

The weirdest thing I got was this sweater: http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi34354&N=0
I looked at the wrapped present and it said it was from my dad. My mom does all the shopping and writes from "Santa" on it so I was confused why I was getting this. I open it up and my mom says, "Now before you say anything, tell me what animal that is. Dad went to the store and said he had to get this for you" I love penguins so I said "Oh... tropical penguins!"

I know they are puffins. Poor dad.

Re: Presents!

  • @quirky75 that sweater! So sweet of your dad though - haha! And when I read a sweater with penguins/puffins on it, I expected it to be a lot tackier than that, so that's at least good?

My brother and sister got me an iPad, which is so awesome and way better than anything I expected to get! Besides that, I got a lot of jewelry (I'm not usually a bracelet girl, but I got three different bracelets, so 2015 will be a bracelet year I guess).

DH got me a super soft blanket, which I love, and my aunt got me a pink vest that I've already worn three times. Besides that, I got a few of the usual trinkets that may or may not get used.

Emily got spoiled rotten, as expected, with tons of clothes, toys, and books. She loves her new exersaucer though, and it will make it so much easier for me to get stuff done around the house, so for that I am super thankful.

  • @quirky75 - Haha, aww!!

I got a kitchen aide mixer from my husband.  I was shocked.  I kept telling him I didn't want one because of the cost - but he surprised me with one anyway.  He also got me a jigsaw.  Quite the combination huh?

From family I got a ton of maternity clothes. Including a couple tops from my brother who's 20.. who went shopping with his friend.  I would've loved to see those two in a maternity store.  He also got a onesie that says world's greatest uncle or something - said he had to search all over for something that said uncle, even though there were so many 'aunt' items.

And we were able to surprise our families with the news that it's a boy.  We gave them scratch-offs from the ultrasound place we went to.  So it was fun watching them try and figure out exactly what it was.  They're all excited.

    Anniversary

  • H and I did small gifts this year. He got me a very nice down winter jacket that I needed but never would have bought myself.

My sister came through with a Nordstrom gift card and smashbox makeup kit. Unfortunately my child decided he wanted to keep the makeup and his it in his room somewhere. So now I have to clean to find it. Sigh.

SIL got me one of my favorite Volusoa candles.

MIL "gifted" us some basketball tickets (H is a huuuuuge fan) but the game was tonight on NYE and she knows damn well that he works every NYE with no way of taking off. There's more but I'm not even going to bother getting into it, y'all know that she sucks.

My parents decided to give us a car during their visit last month so that's like a lifetime of christmas presents.

@quirky75 - I agree with @LCostel - it wasn't as bad as I expected from your description. Not something I'd wear, but not terribly tacky. Very sweet story!

@ky29 - love that your brother and his friend went shopping for maternity and baby stuff!

The best thing I got was a beautiful necklace from DH. Unfortunately the chain broke already. I think it's a case of buying an expensive necklace that comes with a cheap chain, so it has to be exchanged this week.

The present(s) that we got and didn't love - well, one of them was good, but we got THREE toaster ovens. That really frustrated me - one was from my sister, who hates lists and refuses to buy anything off of them, but this year actually did. My SIL and BIL bought us one. And then my other BIL bought one even after I told him several times to check with his stepmother on what others had bought as he was shopping last minute. (If he had, she would have told him the SIL & BIL already got one.) So while it was on our list, it was a bit of a headache and kind of made for a let down the second and third time. :(

Oh, and for a MIL story, this one isn't too bad, but my MIL bought me a robe (on my list), but bought the exact opposite of what I asked for. I wanted a light, cotton robe and she bought this big fluffy terrycloth thing.

I've so family-ed out - we had five Christmas events, plus it was my BIL's birthday this past weekend. My BIL asked if we wanted to go see a movie with him and MIL and I told him flat out I was sick of family stuff and while I'd ask DH if he wanted to go, I wouldn't be there. :P
