Anniversary Cake Topper

Tomorrow is my 1 year anniversary with husband. I am excited to have the top layer of our cake. My parents said theirs was nasty when they had it but that was 30 years ago and I don't think they knew how to freeze cake back then. I was wondering if anyone enjoyed their cake topper?

That's cake. Not a cake topper. A cake topper is the figure or flowers or other doodad that gets plunked on top of the actual cake.

Anyhow, to answer the intended question: My aunt and uncle wouldn't even eat theirs and talked about it for years. They stored it in the freezer for a year, and when they cut into it, it turned out to be iced styrofoam to make the wedding cake taller. Oops.

We had a separate anniversary came that the bakery had boxed and wrapped for us. After a year in the freezer (and a plane flight) it was a bit mangled, and after thawing it was kind of dry. If we put a piece in the microwave for a few seconds it made it edible and kind of okay-tasting.

Personally, I think it tastes weird after a year even if stored in the freezer. Taking a bite each might still be a sweet thing to do with some champagne.

We ate ours at the one month mark and it was already a disappointment. Don't expect it to be good.

My parents kept ours in their freezer and at some point during the 1st year my dad had to empty the freezer b/c of a problem and then forgot to put our cake back in so we never go to eat it. So i'm no help but i know most of my friends said it was pretty gross!

We moved before our anniversary and threw out our frozen cake - our baker made us a small anniversary cake because we gave them a professional photo of our cake to add to their portfolio - but my SIL said when they tasted their frozen cake from their wedding it just didn't taste right. However, she added that it might have been a placebo effect from knowing they were eating year-old cake! I say just try it, it's not going to kill you and it might end up being memorable.

I tried to get my husband to understand that year old cake will not taste good and that I can just have the cake lady make us a small replica of our wedding cake. He insisted we keep it because its tradition. He is huge on traditions. So I'm respecting his wishes and will have a couple bites on our 1 year anniversary (which is 9 months away!) our wedding cake was so delicious!!! ill just grin and bear it because I know it's important to him. We will just end up laughing about anyway. He's too funny! He's probably say it tastes like dirty cardboard or something off the wall like that. Wish me luck on march 5th, 2017!!!!!
