New Year's Resolutions?

Does anyone have any resolutions this year?  Or just something you want to work on or do better in 2015?

Happy New Year!

Re: New Year's Resolutions?

  • Drink more water!  I figure if I keep it simple and set the bar low, I might succeed :)  Something else I really want to work on this year is to yell less.  That one will be more difficult than the water.

  • I have a ton of them...I know that I will not succeed at all of them (or maybe none of them, lol!), but I do like to always keep a list of things to work on to kind of keep me in check.

    Get more sleep each night

    Drink more water

    Read 1 book per month

Sew 1 project every other month

    Exercise 3 times a week

    Organize closets and spare bedroom

Have a more organized routine for mornings/evenings

  • We just talked about this last night with the youth group!  I feel like I'm a little bit at a loss because I have no idea what New Baby will do to our family lives.

Of course I want to lose the baby weight, and then some (I'm actually only 6 or 8 lbs up from the day I found out I was pregnant, but I lost a good bit during the first half of the pregnancy.  I had quite a bit I could stand to lose, even not pregnant!!!)

I'd also like to be more patient with S (yell less, etc.)...but also know that will also be difficult with the upcoming baby and related lack of sleep.  I just generally want to feel like a better Momma.  (Do we EVER feel like we're doing a good enough job!?!?!)

Finally, I'd like to organize my house and KEEP it that way!

I'm pretty much a total cliche....but those are three main areas I know I could improve.  Trying to balance that with the knowledge that if I love my kids (I do!), then it won't matter that I have less than patient days.  And it doesn't matter that my house is a mess, or I am "fluffier" than I should/want to be!  There will be a time when they won't want to cuddle and play that I can work on those things.
  • Read more books.  Way back in the day I read a lot.  Now it is 1-2 books a year while I am on vacation.  It would be nice to get back to reading a little bit during a typical week.
  • I broke mine into categories. Lol!

Marriage: continue 1 date night outside the house per month

Add one date night at home per month after the kids go to bed (instead of him playing video games and my high quality TV)

Family: each parent takes Logan on one free or cheap date per month.

Do one active family activity per month (walking, kicking the soccer ball, etc)

Health: Go to bed at 11 every night (so far so good and it has really made a difference!)

Get strong again (after not exercising for a year thanks to the pregnancy and surgery complications, I have a long way to go here)

Home: organize/purge one space per month

Finance: save for Christmas all year long (we're SO bad about this)

    Continue paying down debt.

Sell our old house. This is going to happen. Third deals a charm. Sooner much rather than later since now I have to pay the gas bills at two houses!

I want to go back to the gym and making that a priority again. I did it before, I just need to find somewhere that offers the classes I like I did some research yesterday, so now I just have to act. I would also like to add in yoga.

Finish paying off my credit cards. I am almost there and it is awesome.

Purge my closest. I seriously have so many clothes that I never wear. I actually started this last weekend. I was ruthless and got rid of anything I haven't wore recently or was in iffy shape. I have also given up on some of the jeans I was hoping to fit into again. If I do get to be that size again, I will buy new jeans! ;)

Read more. I used to read all the time and I have fallen off.

  • I have the usual boring ones, I'd like to lose some weight and just be healthier. So far I'm doing ok with that (drinking more water, making sure to take vitamins, watching what I eat). My more general one is I'd like to be happier. So I'm trying to simplify things, learn to say no and try and do a little more for myself. We'll see how it goes ;)
  • Sarah- Here is an easy trick to save for Christmas. Never use your change. I worked with a lady that used this method for years. She would always pay with bills, never giving anyone exact change. Another lady save her change and ones. It adds up fast. Nathan does it and saved over $600 in about 8 months.

I worked with another lady who had a Christmas Account at the credit union which only allowed one withdrawal a year. She would have $30 a pay put in automatically all year(we got paid bi-monthly so $60 a month) so $760 a year.

This year I put it all on my American Express. It was kinda scary how much I spent and I have no kids! But we have some birthdays in November/December (my sister, SIL, brother, and nephew, MIL) so those are in there too. I have been good about setting a budget per person, but I always blow the budget on Nathan's gifts.

  • Sarah- I save for Christmas year round. I have $15 moved to savings every Monday (and I have a sub account set up so I can further tuck it away) and it works well. I like being able to sit down when I'm ready to shop and say 'I have x amount saved' and plan from there. It's also nice because if I find something early - I have the funds.
  • I have a few.  Continue with WW - that was my resolution last year and I've stuck with it for a year now and am SO close to being down 20lbs.   I'd like to kick it up a notch and be a lot thinner for our vacation in June.

Drink less Diet Coke.  This one will be hard.  I have weaned myself down to just the morning one so far this year.  Today I only drank half of it.

Organize/purge the house.  The amount of stuff we keep, but never EVER use is ridiculous.
  • We estimated how much we spent this year, upped it by $100, and then broke down what we need to save each month. It will be nice to have it ready to spend come December!! :)

  • To not be pregnant.  So far, I am having trouble reaching that goal.
I hear you!   4 people who were do within days of me or AFTER me have birthed their children....
  • I like Abby's to not yell as much. It's something I really struggle with!

I'm also going to work hard to get our debt down. We'll be paying off my DH's car loan and another bill in March, which will help a lot!

My other goal is to try to pick up one more freelance writing gig. Doing this help help me build my reputation down here as well as bring in more$  to help pay down the debt. :)
