Preschool Dance/Gymnastic Lessons (North)

Hey ladies!
Ya'll have been so helpful so far, so I thought I would ask if anyone has any suggestions on places to look for dance or gymnastic lessons for my almost 4 year old. I looked a little online but it is hard to really know without recommendations. Just looking for something fun. doesn't have to be super serious :)

  • Which part of the north? Cranberry area or Ross?

  • DD started dance at age 4 and loves it.  We're in the west though so I can't help with rec.

  • My kids go to Gymkhana in Wexford www.gymkhanafun.com although its more like McCandless (Pine Creek road) across from Target/Walgreens etc..  Its laid back fun for kids - big waiting room & window to see kids if you want.  They don't have any formal gymnastics team at this location so if you are looking for that this isn't the place.  They all like it (esp. the stamp at the end).  They have 3 or 4 sessions that run 2/3 months at a time.  Winter started back in December.   Easy to work with & you can make up sessions if you need to.

If you want more formal try Jewarts which is between North Park & Rte 8.  Caileigh went there after the place down from us closed (still sad about that) - she was probably 2 or 3 but I didn't like it.  Very small viewing area & more serious than I was looking for at that age.  No doubt its a good fit for many.

    No recs on dance sorry

  • My sisters went to X-Cel in Cranberry. My sister started when her coach left and opened. It has changed owners since (original owner retired). My youngest sister also went there for years. They were both competitive but they do offer dance and pre-school programs.

  • My oldest started dancing at 4 @ Michele's Dance Center in Wexford. I really liked it because a lot of the other dance studios in the area are really competitive, even at that age level. This is a low key pre-school class. The only downside I didn't like was that the recitals are out in Fox Chapel at Shadyside Academy and tickets are $14/ticket. Also photo packages are expensive for recital photos. But, it's the cheaper studio around the area as far as class prices.

If you're still interested next year, McIntyre Elem has an after school program. My youngest who is turning 4 next week is in the beginners class and my oldest is in tap/ballet/tumbling. It's cheap and they enjoy it.

We've also taken gymnastics at Gymkhana. I really liked it there.

  • My almost 4 year old takes Ballet/Tap at Star Styled Dance in Cranberry.  I chose it for the location and because it is a tad more affordable than some of the other studios in the area. She took gymnastics from age 2-3.5 at Gymkhana (different Pittsburgh location) and loved it.

  • We do North Pittsburgh Dance Alliance, dance and tumbling for that age group. Several friends go to Star Styled too and like it

  • Great! Thanks guys! We are looking up near cranberry/ Wexford. Ill check out a few! We just need to get bodies moving over here!

And psychgalbride, does your daughter like the ballet/tap or does she get bored? I am a little afraid my daughter is going to think it's boring and not want to keep going.

  • Photoelise- another bonus for StarStyled is these Saturday morning dance parties.  This week's is Frozen themed Snow Sisters (Elsa and Ana of course!) will be held from 10:30 am - 12pm for the 3-5 year old child. $15 ssdc students; $20 friends  This is a nice added bonus that I am not sure other studios provide.  I think we are going to register for this week's since Madeline is now a Frozen fan.
Feel free to email me at babybloomingbouquetsATgmail.com   I have a feeling our houses will be pretty close.

Madeline LOVES dance.  She counts down the days.  Wednesday mornings she jumps out of bed saying DANCE CLASS DAY!  We do not do daycare or preschool so this is her one social activity right now.  At Star Styled, the preschoolers only do ballet for the first semester (Sept-Jan) and start tap in Jan- June.  Recital is in June and they only do one number (ballet).

StarStyled is pretty flexible if you feel the need to quit.  One of the other girls in class just wasn't enjoying it and was able to drop out and not be charged for the full semester.  HTH!
