Disney Cruise - Travel agent or not?

We know what cruise we're interested in, we know the price, and have some excursions chosen.  I'm torn on using a TA.  I know they don't charge, some give on board credit, some give a gift in the stateroom, they'll help us choose a room, etc, BUT I'm not sure that I want to deal with a TA when making payments and booking our excursions.  Opinions?

Re: Disney Cruise - Travel agent or not?

  • Personally, I'd just do some research and find the best deal you can online yourself.  Lots of online booking agents offer on-board credit.

If you have a Costco membership, they sometimes have good travel deals (we like them in particular for rental cars, but they have other great deals too from what I've heard).  We have also found lots of great deals through http://cruises.united.com/, including drink packages, room upgrades and on-board credits.  Plus, we "collect" United Airlines miles, and booking here gets use those on top of the extra perks.

As a side note, my H and I don't have children, but we LOVE Disney Cruise Line.  It is awesome, definitely one of our favorites.  The rooms, the food, the boat, and if you're going to the Bahamas, their private island is incredible.  We even enjoyed the daily themes and nightly activities geared toward families (like pirate night! - which has a very cool show with fireworks on the mail deck).  Have fun!!

  • We use our TA when booking our Royal Caribbean cruises and we love it. We only have to make 1 down payment and then the final payment is due 3 months before the cruise starts so it's really not an issue in having to deal with her. She always picks out the best room locations for us! Also, we book our own excursions on RC's website ourselves as well as our own entertainment and dining times, but I'm not sure if you can do all that on Disney's website yourself as well...? Overall, it's such an easy process and we do most of the work ourselves...plus we like the free perks when you book with a TA. On our last anniversary we got free dinner at a specialty restaurant as well as champage in the room, it was really nice. good luck!
