Food dye?

in the previous post some of you mentioned eliminating food with dye in it. can you give some examples of some of the food items you are referring to? my son doesn't eat much candy, sugary cereals, etc... so i'm just wondering if anyone had some concrete examples of common food items with a lot of dye in it that i should watch out for.
thanks!

Re: Food dye?

  • Google the Feingold diet - that should explain it all. We don't do it, but I have friends that swear by it.
  • It's in a lot more than I realized (see my post below where luckystar paged me as emmy, there's a link to my blog where I list some resources and more detail about our experience with elimination)

Like you, when the dr first brought it up, i brushed it off thinking he wasn't eating it on a regular basis, thinking it was only in candy and things like that.  Nope, it's in some yogurts, crackers, muffins, waffles (the blueberry kind, depending on the brand), nutrigrain bars (some flavors, not all)....there's more, I just can't remember.  But definitely in a lot more stuff that I realized....now, I analyze food labels like crazy, because you never know where it's hiding!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • I'm very intimidated because I feel like dye is in so much that we don't realize! I'm off to read Emmy's blog and do some googling!

  • My friend also follows the Feingold - she follows it as much as possible, but not totally since it is a pretty strict method.  An example she gave me was that Goldfish crackers do not contain food dye, however, the spray they use in their packaging to keep the crackers fresh, does contain dye, so the FM recommends to eliminate foods like that.
