Oscar nominations

Is anyone inspired by the Oscar nominations to see one of those movies now?

Re: Oscar nominations

  • I want to see Boyhood --- had not heard of it before awards season and Grand Budapest Hotel was a pass for me months ago but now I am interested in checking it out.
  • I feel like so many of the movies this year seem like they're heavy.  I am not sure any of them are something that I would want to see.  I DID see Begin Again, which has a song nominated.  But I think that may be it!
  • I've wanted to see Foxcatcher and I still haven't seen gone girl, so that's on the list.

  • A number of the movies have been on my list for months, but we never get to the movies.

We love all Wes Anderson's stuff, so I've had budapest on my list.
I've wanted to see boyhood since I saw the director interviewed over the summer. I think it's such an interesting concept.
I want to see Foxcatcher and Birdman as well.
DH and I tend to see all the war movies, so American Sniper is on our list as well. We do an annual President's Day movie date, and I suspect that's what we'll see this year. The fact that Clint Eastwood directed it is a bonus for us. We really like his movies.

Based on what I have seen, yes there is a lot of heavy (Foxcatcher,Unbroken).

Birdman wasn't heavy but it was a little slow and kind of weird.

Theory of Everything was good but it was very much a documentary type of movie where it is more like this is what happens in his life--not a lot of suspense or drama.

Imitation Game was my favorite.  It was so good.  Based on a true story, entertaining, drama, humor, suspense, good acting....you might like that one.

  • Saw American Sniper over the weekend (and apparently so did the rest of the world - 100M+).  I love Bradley Cooper so it was an easy sell for me not really knowing the background.  OMG it was quite the movie.  Cooper was great as Chris Kyle & I barely recognized Sienna Miller in the beginning.   I won't spoil it but can't remember the last time I left a theater in complete silence - you could seriously hear a pin drop.  That being said, it moves fast & covers alot of years.  I wish they would have developed some of the other characters more, some relationships are mentioned once or twice but never explored.  Probably b/c he did 4 tours which they covered in depth.  I'd recommend it.

Not sure what others I'd like to see - love Keaton & Carell but their movies don't interest me at all.  Maybe Imitation Game.
