Assigned Reading...

So, I received my shipment of romance novels to read for the RITA Awards judging. While these books might be great, I am reluctant to read them only because I'm being told I have to. I'm such a "mood reader" that I want to be able to grab what I'm in the mood for. I was like this in school too. Maybe I just like being defiant. Hahahaha. Is this just me?

I'm the same way! I sometimes will even put off book club books because I "have" to even if I like the book.

Yep, I'm the same way. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for certain books, and it's even worse if I have to read it.

Same! This is why I never do the reading challenges on the board. I don't like being told what to read.

This is why I can't be in a book club. I have a hard time reading what I'm being told to read.

I'm so like that too. How many do you have to read? Is it only for one category? That's why I only half ass challenges and usually only participate in book clubs where I can assert my control over the selections.

Yup, ditto what everyone else said.

BUT...one of my favorite sci-fi romances, (Ghost Planet by Sharon Fisher, which I pimped quite heavily on this board), came to me in my RITA packet two years ago. I never would have known about the book otherwise, so I was very grateful that fate intervened.

I have to read SEVEN and they are all over the place as far as category... This should be interesting.

Weird. I figured one group of people would judge all the same category, but I guess this way gives more variety?

I missed this pimpage. Adding it to my TBR list....
