Acne Help :(

Hey Everyone,

I am getting married in just under 10 months and I am in desperate need of some help/advice. I have terrible problems with acne, always have. But I do not want to have to worry about this on my wedding. It makes me extremely self conscious and I want it gone.

I mostly get it on my chin, along my jaw line and right beside my ears and it is painful.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Acne Help :(

  • Use benzoyl peroxide (the percentage depends on your age - use less than 5% if you're 30 or close to it) once a day and a gentle cleanser once a day. Other than that, I need more information about your skin type.
  • Drink more water. Eat less sugar and milk and add more vegetables and fatty fish (like salmon) to your diet. Exercise on a regular schedule. Exfoliate daily. These have really helped me out with my acne!
  • Acne in those locations is largely hormonal.  Sometimes taking the right BCP can help, as well as laying off caffeine which can exacerbate hormonal issues.  I have a similar issue, and Murad acne line + clarisonic facial brush + changing pillow cases 2X a week were a HUGE help.  Now I only get a few pimples once a month which go away in a couple of days.
  • I've been fighting acne since early adolescence.  I'm 29.  What I've learned is root cause is *so* different for everyone.  What works for many may or may not work for you.  Bummer, huh?

I use acne.org 's Benzoyl Peroxide.  It's 2.5%.  It comes in huge bottles so you can use the crap out of it.  The trick is slather it on THICK.  A thin layer, that is often recommended..doesn't seem to do much for me and many others.  Thick layer twice a day.  Let dry....follow with a moisturizer.

    It's worth a shot.

Some folks have great luck with Alpha Hydroxy Acid.  I use a moisturizer infused with AHA to clear my skin of all the nasty flakes I get from the drying BP.

White toothpaste is one of the best and easiest home remedy I would prefer. Apply small amount of it on the affected area before going to bed. Within few days you will see a significant improvement.

I have the exact same issues. I'm 28. The only way I can keep mine under control is by using African Black Soap.
  • I was prescribed EpiDuo by my dermatologist. It can be really expensive (depending on your insurance) but made such a huge difference for me. The other non-prescription product line that seems to work for me is MD Complete (http://mdcompleteskincare.com/products/#category-breakouts-acne). They carry it at Target (at least in MN they do). Cutting out dairy and sugar would likely help as well.
  • For this case, you need to pay more attention to the basic cleansing and skin care. The product you use must be reliable. Hope everything goes on well! ;;)
