FHA issues

We found a home we love, which is huge, because DH was epically picky. It's also $15,000 under our max, in a great neighborhood - I remember thinking while signing the offer papers that this was too good to be true.

Fast forward to yesterday, when the seller was supposed to get back to us by 6. It's an estate sale with undisclosed info on the house, so the estate attorney talked the seller (executor of the will) into asking us for another day to be able to make sure everything is FHA compliant. We were told by our agent that she'd gotten an email from the sellers agent saying the seller was about to accept our offer before the attorney talked her into waiting a day. I'm going stir crazy.

Has anyone gone through this? This is our first home buying experience, so I don't know if there's anything I can do, but wait. Patience is not my strong suit.

Re: FHA issues

  • Well, you do want the home to be FHA compliant and neither party wants the deal to die because of mortgage issues. IMO the lawyer gave great advice for smooth sailing going forward.
Our first home was an estate sale -- but we did not do FHA.

  • I know it's hard to wait, but if the home is not FHA compliant much time and money will be saved by finding out now. In my state, estate sellers are not required to disclose anything about the house, which I imagine would complicate FHA. Good luck!
  • They finally accepted, now we just have to wait on the FHA assessor to approve the house for our loan. I suck at patience and waiting...
