Anyone around who can give some sod advice?
I'm in the process of selecting a contractor to install sod in our backyard. We recently had our septic tank replaced, which absolutely destroyed 50% of our backyard. The septic guys filled all the dirt back in and rolled it all out but they probably buried the top soil and it's all Georgia red clay in that area of the yard.
Of the two contractors I'm looking at, one is including the addition of landscape mix/soil in his quote. Adding it will provide us with an additional 4 inches or so of fresh top soil for the sod to root in. Is it really necessary? I'm hesitant because it's putting on an additional $1k in cost on top of already expensive sod. The other contractor didn't seem to feel the need to add the additional topsoil. Both are good companies, and the sod farm they buy from is top notch so I think they'll both do good work....but I also want to make sure we do all the right things so our sod roots and establishes properly. I really can't find many details from Googling and I'm waiting on a call back from the turf company to get their thoughts, but I figured I could try and reach out here as well.
