Catholics...First Communion Dresses?

Hi Ladies!
I've only been lurking lately due to not being allowed to post at work. Hope you all are well!

My daughter is having her first communion this spring. Any recs on where to get a great dress? Anyone have experience with today's first communion "style"? I wore a veil and tights and have no idea if that is still the look? I went to a confirmation last year and was surprised that girls didn't have to wear white anymore, but just wore a dress of any color and style they chose. (Man, I am old!)

Thank you for your help!!

  • We found one at Cozy Creations in Forest Hills right off the exit of 376 - https://www.facebook.com/cosycreationspittsburgh. They had a good selection - probably more than I thought I would pay ($100?) but Caileigh wanted something pretty plain and the one she found she loved.   I think I posted a similar question last year when the usual places (macys, nordstroms, burlington) turned up nothing & that is how I found the place.  Its small but the ladies have been around for ages.

I think all of the girls wore white last year although the style really varied from really jazzy/beaded ones to simple & plain. I guess it just depends what you are comfortable having your daughter wear & what she likes.  She definitely wore panty hose & white shoes.  No gloves but had her hair pulled up in a bun with some curls.  Our church didn't care about gloves as long as they took them off when they received communion.   My signature used to have a picture of her in it.

Confirmation is definitely different, I don't think they have worn white for that in many years.  I'm not sure I even did!!

  • Thank you so much for the info and store recommendation! I will definitely check it out. I've never heard of that store and the hubs has family that way so we'll go on our next outing. Was totally looking for a store outside the norm like this!
  • Check Burlington.
