Moving up/on

I've worked for a large global company (in a local office) for almost 3 years. I am trying to find another position to further my career (and income, honestly).   I'm finding that even the internal posted positions are requiring experience that I don't have, for example experience with recruiting systems.

I'm ready and willing to learn, but it doesn't seem like they want to take the time to train or teach me what I need to know to be successful-- I say this because I continue to be rejected for positions I've applied for. My annual reviews have been excellent, I've gotten three awards over the last two years, and have recently started my MBA.

So, my question is.... How do I go about getting experience when companies want to hire individuals who already have experience (this seems to be the trend for other companies as well)..?

Re: Moving up/on

  • Do you have an HR person for your office that you could speak to?  They may be able to help direct you up your career ladder.  I know I've set up mentoring programs matching seasoned employees with newer ones who want to explore a role.Your company may be open to doing something similar.  My advice is to ask for help in gaining knowledge and experience first, and then looking into promotions (and raises!) once you've proven yourself capable.
