New York City?

Anyone gone recently or enough to NYC to have some recs? I'm trying to look into feasibility of doing a weekend trip around our anniversary (spring/summer) know dh would want to go to Mets game. Otherwise would like to do some touristy stuff.

Any Recs on areas to stay or specific hotel recs? Anything else to rec?

Re: New York City?

  • DH grew up in Manhattan, so we go yearly, but we always stay with family.

Where to stay depends a lot on what you want to do/see. There are some fun hotels in Chelsea that are around a lot of night life.

I hate Times Square, but a lot of the touristy stuff is in that area,  and if you haven't seen it you may want to be there to hit a lot of the big stuff easily.

You can easily get the subway to Citi Field to see a Mets game. You can catch the 7 train in Times Square and it takes you right there. The Mets have their own stop. Mets/Willets Point Station.

I can spend an entire weekend just wandering the Met and Central Park.

  • When I was there recently with work we stayed at the W Times Square, which was very nice. I LOVED the Essex House, but that is out of the budget these days.

We've stayed in Jersey both times we've gone and taken a bus/shuttle into Manhattan. It's not the most glamorous, but it got the job done:) We utilized the hop on hop off buses for in and around the city both times we went and I really like those. They hit all the major touristy spots and you can get off, take your time and then get back on. Or you can do the entire loop and it's a nice tour. The only thing here is to check the ending time - as you want to make sure you're back at a specific time so you don't miss the last bus (we almost did!). We enjoyed Greenwich Village - Pommes Frites (a hole in the wall french fry place - soooooo good) and Max Brenner's Chocolate by the Bald Man were both favorites :)
  • mmmmmmm...........Max Brenner's.  YUM.  Definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't been!!
