The Slap

Is anyone going to watch this show?

It looks interesting and the acting will be top notch no doubt but I don't think I want to watch a show where the main story line is a slap.

I guess I tend towards the fluffy and escapism for my TV watching preferences.

Re: The Slap

  • I just can't get passed the name of the show.  It's just a stupid name, in my opinion.

  • ditto lala.  dumbest name for a show ever....TV execs couldn't come up wtih something...anything...better than that?

  • I agree abou the name. I am definitely intrigued, and will watch...I just don't understand how a series will be based on one "slap" incident? There are some decent actors in it, so I'm thinking/hoping it has to be good?!?
  • It makes me think of the slap bet from how I met your mother.

It is based on an Australian book with the same name from 2008 and is an american version of the mini-series already run in Australia in 2011. (I just read all this info earlier). Kinda like Broadchurch(BBC) and Gracepoint(Fox).

it is an 8 part mini-series that starts with a bbq and kids playing baseball. Hippie parent kid is a general terror and when he almost hits another child with a bat, the controlling, bully father slaps him. It goes from there with each episode focusing on one characters POV.

It gets horrible reviews in that it is very stereotypical (hippie/artist parents with no boundaries, successful bully with very strict standard for son, greek grandparents that say slapped kid is a brat and deserved it, etc) I don't think I will waste my precious dvr space on it

  • When I first saw a show called The Slap, I assumed that it was a comedy.   Because The Slap is a ridiculous name for a drama.  And no, I won't watch.  Because I have trouble making a commitment to hour long shows.
  • The name is just ridiculous! From commercials it looks dumb IMO. I just have no interest.

What about ABC's Secrets & Lies which starts March 1st. I saw a commercial the other day and thought that looked really good (much better name ha!). And I don't mind watching some Ryan Phillipe! I will definitely give that one a shot.

  • Didn't watch it but I am so sick of seeing the same promo over & over.  Plus I also couldn't understand how they can make 8 episodes out of one slap.  I mean come on.

I am going to have to look into this.  Ryan Phillipe, sigh.
  • I have missed Ryan Phillipe, but that show looks a bit intense for me.  At the present time, I'm committed to how to get away with murder and scandal, and sometimes those back to back are almost too much for me to handle.  I'm such a baby!!

I agree, Secrets and Lies looks a lot more intriguing.  I may watch that one.
