Vent + Asking for Input

edited February 2015 in Money Matters

Some of you will remember that DH and I had our Chevy Impala die on us in the fall and had to buy a new car because the cost to repair was more than it was worth. We ended up buying a minivan because we have 3 kiddos. Well, you'll also recall that we ended up buying a NEW 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan with cash in October.

Today it has around 3,600 miles on it and the heater isn't working properly...there is a dual control system in the front seat - one for the driver and a separate temperature knob for the passenger. The back two rows also have a separate temperature system that can be controlled from back there AND from the driver's control area.

The passenger side and two back rows are pumping out major heat, which is fine when the car is freezing here in MN (it's 5 degrees today). But after the car warms up, everybody is blasted and too hot. The kids are whining and the passenger is smoked out, meanwhile the driver feels a chill because the heat is weak on that side. And, if the heater is on at all in the vehicle the passenger and rear rows cannot do anything EXCEPT heat. Cooler knob temperatures settings do not work at all.

I'm just annoyed. I realize that stuff happens to cars all the time and maybe it's a quick fix for the dealership. But, it isn't even 6 months old!

So, first does anything body have any ideas on what this is? Or, have you had a similar problem? And, what do you think our chances are of getting the dealership to fix it for free. With the new car, I know we have a 100,000 mile power train warranty, but I'm not sure about the bumper to bumper thing - DH has to check on that.

Ugh.

Re: Vent + Asking for Input

  • Usually the bumper to bumper warranty is for 36,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first.  So definitely call your dealership and schedule an appointment to get it fixed.  It should not charge you a penny.

Agree.  I'm sure you are still covered by the original warranty.  Those warranties follow the cars, even when they the cars are resold.
  • You should still be covered by the regular warranty, make an appointment with the dealership so you can be warm in your car.
  • what everyone else said.  Delearship can fix it for free since it's so new
