Speaking of car seats...

I'm a little confused. The kiddo turns 4 in April. She's still within the height/weight limit of her convertible car seat. Is there any particular reason to switch to a high back booster with a harness? I feel like I see parents around this age make the switch, but it doesn't really seem necessary as she still fits comfortably in her convertible seat. So I'm not sure if I'm missing something...

Re: Speaking of car seats...

  • I don't really think there's any reason to change over, as long as like you said, she's still within the limits of the seat. Jake just got out of his 5 point convertible seat this past November....he was almost 7. That might have been a bit extreme, but he's on the small side (weight-wise) for his age, and he honestly didn't really complain about it until the last few weeks he was in the harness, so we just left him in that.

  • Mason and Garrett are both still in 5 point harnesses.  Mason will soon grow out of his height wise, at which point I will move him to a Britax 5 point harness booster.  Hopefully by the time he grows out of it, they will have come up with a 5 point harness that lasts until 18 years old.  ;)
  • I guess I should clarify that he was in a 5 point convertible booster, and not an actual convertible infant/toddler carseat, haha!  that would have been a comical sight, i'm sure, with his little limbs dangling way over the seat!   we had the Graco Nautilus (I think that's what it was called) that has a 5 pt harness, high back booster, and a regular no back booster.

LOL - Mason is still in his convertible car seat!  He still has about 15lbs and a couple inches to go before he grows out of it, but we're switching to a booster this spring.  We have the Graco Nautilus for him in my parent's car.
  • Thanks ladies! We'll probably stick with these a bit longer then:)
  • We switched both girls when they became too tall for the car seat (around age 4) weight wise I think they could stay in a convertible car seat until they are 15 lol.  My 4 year old is in a britax booster with a 5 point harness now.  It is much easier for her to get herself in and out of the seat by herself (of course I buckle her).

  • We switched around 5 I think. I needed to really get another car seat for mine as she was growing out of the one I had. I didn't really want to get a 5 point at that point so I got a high back booster. I'm DH's car we had one that was 5 point and booster. We hated that thing with a passion. The buckles were horrible and it was just such a pain to deal with. We honestly switched for convenience because it was just so annoying! Stupid graco Argos!
