If I didn't have to go out in it later, I'd be enjoying the sight of all the pretty snow right now.  But I'm just dreading leaving my office later :(

Who else is bracing themselves for a school closure tomorrow for the temps? I know there will be a delay for sure, so it's just a matter of waiting around to see if they change to closed overnight....

Re: So, um...how about this weather we're having?

  • I'm expecting one. I'm supposed to have Michael's birthday celebration at school tomorrow, and already have all the brownies purchased. I guess we'll have to eat them before we leave for vacation. :) The lunch of champions.

Steve and I were both already working from home tomorrow, so I suspect we'll have two more keeping us company.

  • I am also dreading the commute home.  I plan to bring my laptop home in case of a delay or closure.

Rich is out of town and supposed to fly in tonight...I'm imagining that his flight will be canceled!

  • I really, really am not looking forward to the commute. I'd love a delay/closing for my work place, though... ;)
  • I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't be devastated with a school closure tomorrow....

  • Where I am schools have break this week. Honestly if it wasn't break I think they would have had most the week off for wind chill!!! Ugh this is so ridiculous! Hate this winter. Not to mention I have been constantly sick since before Christmas!!!

  • stopped snowing downtown which may salvage what could have been a disastrous rush hour.  Who knows about tomorrow - the way our weather falls it could change overnight!

  • Greentree was bad at about 2:00 but now the roads are clear and there is no snow at all.

  • Roads look much better now than they did two hours ago. Fingers crossed for an okay commute.

Pittsburgh Public just closed for tomorrow due to cold/wind chill. Thankfully DH can work from home part of the day and a neighbor offered to take the kids in the afternoon. I have a super busy day at work tomorrow. Of course.

  • Our school district doesn't delay for the cold.  I can't have a closure tomorrow.  I have places I need to be and I don't want to take kids with me. lol.

  • Commute home last night was a disaster; roads weren't terrible but HOV was closed which always causes backups.  Left my office right at 4, walked into daycare at 5:50.
    >:P

My development hadn't been touched by a plow or salt truck I don't think, so that was fun trying to make it down the hill.  just a delay for north hills today, though I was kind of secretly hoping they would just close because I didn't really feel like going out in the cold this morning!!  No such luck.  currently stomping my feet in my office trying to regain some feeling.

  • I think with tomorrow morning's -8 you'll get the excuse to not leave the house tomorrow.

As predicted, my kids are off. Michael is sad about missing his early birthday celebration in class, and now I have two dozen mini brownies covered in icing sitting here taunting me as we're all at home, working and playing.

The poor brownies are going to be wasted, as we leave this evening for warmer temperatures. Getting out just in time.

  • I'm jealous of your trip, Lisa!

My commute home was fine, though cleaning off my car was a challenge. There was a layer of ice with the snow stuck to it :/ I stopped to get fish fry and the church parking lot was completely covered, but that was the worst part of the drive.

Our daycare is talking about delaying tomorrow and there was a parent freaking out over it. While I think it's a little silly for a daycare to delay - I felt really bad for the staff getting screamed at in front of other parents and the kids.
  • I'm not holding my breath for tomorrow, but it would be a pleasant surprise if it happens!

  • Gwen-gotta love the parent freak out (in both directions, whether they close or delay, or not close or delay)  The only good thing to come from all this crappy weather is being entertained by the school district's facebook page, as parents rage out about the school's decisions.

  • Emmy - you are SO right! My office follows a group here in Moon that is never EVER satisfied with the decision. No delay? You hate our kids! Delay? What about the parents that have to work?! It's crazy! They even went so far as to track down the superintendent's personal FB page :/
  • Lisa, if you get a case of cabin fever today, feel free to drop some brownies off downtown!  =)

We had a delay today, and given tomorrow's temps, I'm assuming another delay or closure will happen tomorrow.  I work from home on Fridays, so either way, I won't have to go out in the cold!

Parents are seriously cray. Not to dismiss how difficult it is for some families to find alternative care for delays/closures, or to make light of safety concerns, but that doesn't entitle people to act like lunatics.

  • Our district closed today.  And I'll admit that I'm kind of sad that our district's FB page NEVER has drama.  It's like everyone in our district is happy with whatever call is made.  Womp, womp.

I am going to assume that if they closed today, they'll at least delay tomorrow.  If they close, I might just take a work at home day.  My co-irker takes them if she has a hang nail and I never do, so I feel like for this I'm justified.  Also, it would be nice not to have to walk from the garage to my office when it's -7.
  • Haha our District FB page had a lot of comments last Friday. It was the last day before a week off and was supposed to be cold. The superintendent said we would likely be open but if you feel it's unsafe keep your kid at home, we will support that. Yet people kept bitching that our district hates our kids, not safe. I don't get it! Keep your kids home if it's an issue! I for one need my kid at school!

But I agree nobody needs to yell at people!

  • I am now understanding why we have a week off in Feb! We may have been closed most of the week with this cold!! At least with a planned week off I have childcare in place!

  • Our district closed today.  I'm honestly shocked.  So much for getting stuff done today!

so funny b/c Moon never delays when everyone else does b/c they figure it will be just as cold at 10 as it is at 7 or 8, but they closed today!

  • Forgot to say, i don't care at this point if we delay but get their butts to school b/c I don't want us to have to make up days at the end of the year.  Can you imagine how long kids in Boston & NH will be going to school?  Probably until July.  Sucks

  • Others would probably hurt me for saying that I almost hope they start to lose their spring break, but I'm ok with a closing tomorrow for a few reasons...

    1.  I hate riding the bus when it's cold.
    2. the way my time off policy is at work, if the district clothes due to incement weather, I can burn a sick day to stay home rather than a vacation day.
    3.  They have off four days for spring break that I have to cover; 3 of those are scheduled as snow make up days, so if they don't use any (we haven't had any closures yet this year), that's 4 days of vacation time Brian and I have to figure out between the two of us.

So in conclusion, I'd rather use a sick day (of which I have many more than I do vacation time), than have to burn a random day off as a vacation day.
