Moving and Getting Married

My fiancé and I currently live in Austria. We get married in Chicago (where we're from) in July and then move to the east coast a few days after. We literally fly into Chicago at the beginning of the month, get married in the middle of the month, and then move. At first the wedding seemed like perfect timing because we got rid of all of possessions before moving abroad. I'd like to have wedding gifts sent to the east coast, rather than have to move them all from Chicago, but I have no where for them to go. Any ideas?

  • Limit your registry and add gift card to your registry.
  • Don't register (and don't have a shower).  Most people will take the hint and probably give you cash.  I disagree with sisugal....I wouldn't put gift cards on a registry.  Gift cards are good as cash, and you don't ask for cash.

This. Another option is that if you have a trusted family member on the east coast who wouldn't mind holding gifts for you, you could set their address as your shipping address on registries. Generally I suggest at least a small registry since many in my circle are going to give a physical gift come hell or high water. You could limit it to items small in size, though, in case you need to ship them.
