Direct Sales?

Thoughts on them?  I enjoy some of them but others seem pretty gimmicky.  I've been debating signing up to sell Thirty One Gifts.  I really like the totes and bags they have.  But I'm not sure I would be a great salesperson.  It would be a nice way to make additional money and get out of the house.  But I have no clue how to get people to host a party.  Do I ask them?  I feel like that would be rude.  See, feeling bad about approaching people makes me think I wouldn't be a great salesperson.

Re: Direct Sales?

  • Sales is hard no matter what.
  • I have no experience but wanted to wish you luck!
  • Of the ones I've seen, thirty one seems like a good one. I have no idea though, how to get parties.

  • I like the companies for useful things. Totes for organizing = useful

I just really hesitate since I know I'm not a "salesperson".

  • I looked into direct sales off and on.  Joy is a salesperson, but I'm so not.  I do personally know a few people who make decent money off this, however, they treat it as a full time 40+ hour a week job.

Myself, I didn't like how you're expected to continuously try to turn your friends/family into customers nor the fact that I didn't work for the company in a W-2 employee type fashion.  If you're honest about your income, all of it should be reported on a tax form in some form.  Some claim it on their personal taxes, others form a business entity and do it there.  There's pluses and minuses to each.

The one recommendation I have seen passed on by people I know are successful is to find a consumable product (ie. make-up, candles, etc) as that will bring you repeat customers as they use up their supply.

You know, I'm surprised nobody is doing k-cups like this....lol

  • Those are great points. And it is surprising on the k-cup thing. They are so popular.

  • Thinking about what Mark said.  That is really such a great point on selling consumables.  I honestly hadn't thought of that.  Just one more reason to not sell 31.

I love you guys!! I knew I could share and get honest opinions.  And you didn't laugh at me.  Well if you did, you didn't do it on here.  :)
