  • I've been looking at real estate in my hometown. We don't plan to move back for several years, but I'm getting antsy to have a slower lifestyle and waaaaaay cheaper mortgage.

  • I'm irrationally angry at the Denmark meme going around on fb. Yes, they have "free" child care, health insurance, college, $20 min wage and a 33 hour work week... But they also have 60-75% taxes, etc.

  • I went through the drive thru at Dairy Queen last weekend for the first time. I completely missed the speaker where you are supposed to order from and went right up to the window. The girl looking at me like I was crazy. I asked her if I was supposed to order before I got to the window and she said yes. I told that she had my permission to talk about me later.

In my defense the was no "order here" sign and the speaker was about 4 inches big and kinda covered in snow.

  • My confession is kind of snippy, so i apologize in advance.

If one more person tells me, in a derogatory tone, that I'm "skinny" I might swear out loud for the first time ever. Coworkers of mine were talking about diets and stuff and I suggested making the food they love to eat at home. They said I don't have to watch what I eat because I'm so skinny. They are almost the same size as me! And I'm not skinny, i just have a small waist. But i also have large hops and thighs that I am perfectly okay with.

It bothers me when people flat out tell me I'm skinny because i have been hearing that my whole life.

Not gonna lie, I'd take it.

I guess my thought is I'd rather use and pay for college once, and not for the rest of my life for everyone else.  I'm all for tuition caps to keep it affordable.  Maybe even for daycares, because the prices I heard of are crazy.  I know I am so so so blessed to have my parents take care of E for me for a fraction of the cost.

Minimum wage hike seems nice but not when you're getting taxed quadruple.  $20 * 33 = 660/ wk.  Since taxes is 75%, you basically keep one week, govt takes the other 3 weeks.

I see it as a bit of leveling the playing field in regards to college. Now it's fair game who can go, it's not about privilege or who can afford to go.

Daycare is insanely expensive, especially in the higher COL areas of the country.I'm also blessed to have H home 2-3 days a week. It would have been a serious stretch to put him in daycare full time.

When your expenses are covered for things like health care and university, you don't have people going into debt over these things.

  • @willyh1020 - The downside could be that with more people having degrees, that won't set you apart and you have to keep going to get an edge.  Will this just be undergrad?  Masters?  Where's the line?  Example - in PA, there's so many people with elementary ed degrees there's not enough jobs.  We've been out of college since 2007, and my roommate still has not found a perm teaching job in the Philly area.  She's basically became the go-to long-term sub for teachers on ML.

I also question quality after the gov't takes it over.  I guess from working here, I know all the red tape that comes with the gov't slapping their name on something.  There's been a few countries experiencing sub-par care with the universal health insurance.  Even here, there are plenty of VA horror stories.

I think it's hard to compare a country of 4 million with one with 320mil.  Also, nothing is free, it's got to come from somewhere.  There's no way our country will allow even doubling taxes, even if it meant "free" stuff.

  • I hear you, Mana. It's not without complications and would never happen here. Perhaps all these meme posters should look into emigrating to Denmark :)

  • H dressed baby this morning in a goldfish (like the crackers) outfit that was a one piece that was shorts length. He was so excited about the outfit he was singing the goldfish song to baby before he left for work. I changed his outfit before we left for daycare and I've changed him back into the outfit before H gets home so he doesn't know. But really H it was 31 degrees outside this morning what made you think dressing baby in an outfit where you can see his legs aren't covered was a good idea?

  • @pengy16 If your husband is like mine, he probably thinks it's alright because the baby will be indoors.

I confess that I am mad at my mom.  She told me yesterday that she has a retirement party for a coworker tonight and I was going to ask her to watch O so H and I could go out to dinner.  My mom has no idea I was going to ask and is definitely entitled to a social life.  I just wanted to go out with my H!
  • 1. I wound up buying an item for a nursery that I don't have/need yet. H and I had decided that when we eventually have kids, I had wanted to go with a space theme for a nursery. When we went to Ikea on my birthday, I fell in love with a lamp that I thought would be perfect for that theme.
It is currently sitting in my closet waiting.

    2. I left the house today in a pair of capri sweatpants, a tank top, hiking boots and my winter coat. I felt no shame.

  • @mana8503 , i wonder how accurate that meme is. I mean, in Canada we have free health care, but with limits. Day care can be free too, if you are a low income family and apply for a subsidy. Post secondary education is also free if a student has a high enough average to get a full scholarship.

  • I side eyed the crap out of my LC today.  She made a comment that water consumption has nothing to do with production amount, because milk is made from blood.  I really hope she doesn't say stupid shit like that to all the women that come into her office.  You need to stay hydrated.  Do you know how we get our goats to make milk for a show?  I give them something really salty and then give them fresh water, and it works 100% of the time.  She made a couple other comments where I was like,
     image
but it was confirmed that I'm not producing enough.  She did give a couple good pointers, but I really think most of her value was her magic scale that tells exactly how much your baby is getting.
  • @goatlady12 - um that lady is an idiot. Did she give any GOOD advice?

  • @mana8503 she wanted me to come back next week. I bought a baby scale and canceled the appointment.
  • @goatlady12 - I know on the bf board they talk about power pumping to increase supply. I think you pump 20 mins, off for 10, pump 10, off 10, pump another 10. Did she suggest fenugreek? I'm sorry the LC was a bust.

  • She just told me to pump for 10-15 minutes after each feeding. She didn't suggest supplements because she thinks milk is 100% supply and demand. Lol. I have fenugreek coming in the mail. Should be here today!
  • I hope it helps @goatlady12!
