Fractured Ankle

Hello everyone,

This may be a long post but I'll try to keep it short. Back in January (January 23rd to be exact), I slipped and fell outside my parents house as I was leaving.  My left foot swelled up quite a bit but I didn't really think much of it since I have twisted my ankles before and they healed after a few days.  Well after a week, there was still a good amount of pain and swelling but my husband and I had just switched insurances that would not be effective until March 1st.  My parents kept insisting that I go to a doctor for x-rays but, knowing that those can be expensive, I didn't.  So on March 3rd, I had an appointment with my new PCP (primary care physician) and she was shocked at the picture of my ankle from the day I fell.  She sent me that same day to the hospital to get x-rays done and a few days later called me and told me that I have a fractured bone on the inside side of my ankle. She said it is on the bony bump on the inside ankle.  She gave me a referral for an orthopedic surgeon (OS) and said I might need a cast. I have the appointment on Wednesday.

My question is: If I do need a cast, will the OS put it on on Wednesday or will I need to make a separate appointment for that?  I haven't seen the x-rays myself so I don't know how severe of a fracture it is.

Thanks for any tips!
