Since the board is dead - Let us discuss how I became obsessed with Outlander (no spoilers)
So as some of us around here know, I read the first Outlander book back in 2009. At that time, after finishing said book I came away with the opinion that I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't love it. At the time, the character of Claire bugged the living daylights out of me and I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of the things she did. There were parts of the story that I did appreciate though (after all I am a sucker for a fat, epic historical novel) so I did like the historical aspects of it. I did give it a 3 star rating on Goodreads. Not great, but not bad either. I was middle of the road.
But after reading the first book, I didn't feel the need to continue with the series.
Well then skip forward to 2014....for some reason (and I can't remember exactly why... maybe it was because Hoycie started reading the first Outlander), I decided I would try again and pick up Dragonfly in Amber.
Once the books started introducing other characters and the story was about more than just Jamie and Claire, I got sucked in. While I like the relationship between Jamie and Claire alone, I LOVE them with other family members around them. I love so many of the supporting characters in this series. The Fiery Cross (Book #5) has been my absolute favorite so far.
And don't even get me started on my love for Young Ian.
So I have eaten both crow and my humble pie with the Outlander Mafia. I do believe they will never forget my initial snubbing of the series, but I do believe I have risen up the ranks with them a bit now.
