What books should I put on my baby registry?

So far my baby registry is just our big ticket items. I figured I should probably put some lower priced items on there, too, so I thought about some books to start our little library.

What are some good books to put on the registry for our little guy?

Are you looking for board books or classics? We loved Little Blue Truck, Bear Snores On, and all Sandra Boynton for board books. For regular books look at the Llama Llama series, Knuffle Bunny, dr. Seuss.

    And congratulations!!

  • I'll second everything @abs05 suggested and add the Corduroy books and anything from the That's Not My...(Dinosaur/Monster/etc) series. And of course Good Night Moon and Runaway Bunny.

  • I put some of the Baby Lit Board books on my registry and they are really cute. One of my friends started DD a collection Caldecott Award winners, Where the Wild Things Are is the first one that comes to mind, and I thought was really cool. I was pleasantly surprised at how many books I got as shower gifts.

I also bought a set of classics for kids. It has books like Black Beauty, Matilda and more that I can't remember right now.

Pretty much everything ^^ they said.
We love Going on a bear hunt, the Spot books, and pretty much anything with a cover and pages (board or paper). Lol
  • Wes absolutely adores and of the DK Pop Up Peekaboo series.  Especially from 1-2.  He hasn't really gotten into anything too wordy yet.  He also loves The Itsy Bitsy Spider by Kate Toms

The DK books are pretty fun and I know we read the colors one with Athena forever. There's a book called DOG by Matthew Van Fleet that you'd love and both girls love it (now Z loves it to literal pieces...) Sandra Boynton are favorites and anything by Amy Rosenthal (Little Pea, Little Hoot, Spoon) are fantastic.
Kids also love the "That's not my..." they're short but anything with textures or flaps or finger puppets are automatically things they gravitate towards.
If I think of it, I'll send you pics of the kids' bookcases.
Also, it's maybe not something that can be added to registry but grandma has had a couple of books customized to add Athena's name and she's enjoyed those too.
  • The first books that A responded to were the Little Finger Puppet board books.  Also anything with flaps like the Baby Seasons books or Disney's Guess Who books.

And for your reading ease because they are short and rhyme, the Llama Llama books. :)

  • BabyLit, any lift the flap books, any of the "That's Not My..." books.

Good Night Moon and The Runaway Bunny
The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child by Julia something
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie or any of those books by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
I second the Amy Krouse Rosenthol books: Little Pea, Little Hoot, and Little Oink crack my boys up.
    Bear on a Bike
Sandra Boynton books (we especially like Dinosaur's Binkit, The Belly Button Book and Barnyard Dance)
The Hair Scare by Jeffrey Fisher
Eric Carle Books (The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Baby Bear, Baby Bear, What Do You See (this one is especially cool since it has animals all from California): The Very Busy Spider, etc.)
Mo Willems is one of my favorites too. The Pigeon books have some great snark, especially nice if you're ODing on too much sweetness in kid's books. Also, my boys have just discovered the Elephant and Piggie books and love them too.
Dream Animals by Emily something has gorgeous artwork
    Olivia books
    Dr. Seuss books
    Skippy Jon Jones books
    The Day the Crayons Quit
    Pete the Cat Books

Some wordless books that are a lot of fun for when the kids can tell their own stories:
    Shadows by Suzy Lee
    Journey
    Flora and the Flamingo
    Umbrella

  • I love you, Stinky Face
Any and all Sandra Boynton books
Any of the Pat the Bunny/Zoo/Pets books

I love the Charley Harper board books. He was an artist from my area, and Will loves the illustrations.

    Ditto all of the above.

Also Goodnight Gorilla and Shel Silverstein (The Giving Tree is a good one for toddlers.)

  • Our favorites:

    Sandra Boynton Books
    Dr. Seuss books
On the Night You Were Born (I read this to Liam at the hospital and read it to him before he goes to sleep on his birthday every year - it makes me cry every time!)
    Corduroy
    Goodnight Moon
    Pat the Bunny
    Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
    Eric Carle's books
Shel Silverstein's books (These are big favorites at our house - I enjoy them as much as he does)
Also register for any of the Baby's First Words books with pictures and words. Liam has had three or four copies of the same book because he loved it so much

It just so simple and beautiful and so perfectly sums up how I felt when he was born. I fully believe it was written specifically to make weepy mothers sob.

  • DD has always loved Pancakes for Breakfast and Good Night Gorilla.  Books without words are really fun when kids get a little older and can tell the story themselves.

We also adore Dr Seuss in my house.
  • Board books!  That way you don't have to worry about little one ruining them.  Even now at 2, E still loves her board books.

In addition to the great suggestions above, get some high contrast black and white books for when baby is little.  Their little eyes can focus better on these.

We have the ones below, but there are more.
