Hello Everyone!

Hi!
I've been lurking for a while on this and a lot of other boards. Thought it was time to come out of the shadows and introduce myself. My husband and I have been married for almost 2.5 years. We are in the process of getting out of debt and saving up to start a family. Looking forward to getting to know you all and reading all your tips/advice! Is there anything else I should add in my intro? Let me know!

  • Welcome!  Lots of parents on this board and several more who are TTC or trying to financially plan for TTC in the near future.

Let us know if you have any specific goals.  And be sure to participate in the Monday accountability posts!  They're painful sometimes (mine is going to be really painful this week... oi), but they're good for keeping you on track.  I can't speak for the others, but in my experience they sort of make me feel like I have to own whatever financial decisions we made in the previous week, good or bad.

  • Thanks for the welcome!
Definitely planning on participating in the Monday accountability posts! I've been stalking them a bit. It will be nice to have some other help with staying on track.
As for goals: We have two loans right now that we are trying to get rid of before TTC. Both have car payments on them and one has CC/honeymoon. We also would like to have close to 10,000 in E fund. We did some hard core number crunching last night and figured we can have our goals met in June 2016 (hoping to get it done early though!). Have been following Dave Ramsey and a budget since January.

  • Welcome and good luck! Ask lots of questions and be honest with yourself!

Taking control of our finances was hard but now it is second nature and we love it.

You're right, it is definitely hard to take control, but I feel so much better knowing where my money is going now instead of constantly wondering. It is definitely becoming second nature to us too.

also... is there a way to tag people so they know I've responded to them? Is it like Facebook where I just put an @ sign before their name?

  • Welcome! Yup, adding @ tags the person!

I hated wondering where it all went. Two years ago we hit a tough spot, it was either food or our bills. We deferred his loans and got back on our feet.

It is great you are being responsible. I love Dave Ramsey. That was how we got started.

  • @alyssa32713 my goal is to go to the financial peace plaza and do a debt free scream. I have the whole scenario played out in my head complete with Dave saying "very cool, you guys are fun. This is awesome" in true Dave fashion. It keeps me going. :)

  • Hi Kaso!

I'm new here too, I don't post much, but have been learning a lot by lurking! My DH and I are in the same boat as you- married 2.5 years, paying down debt, and saving for children. It sure is an interesting time of our lives!

  • @bridejl thanks! You're right, I have learned a lot by lurking too. Especially how much it can cost to have a kid and all the things I never thought about needing to take care of before we have one. Nice to know there is someone else in the same boat as me!
