Dd is almost 7. She has been asking a lot about where babies come from, how do you get a baby, etc. she has asked in the past but has been satisfied with superficial answers but lately she isn't, ha!
She knows about boys and girls different parts, how babies come out but not how you get pregnant. I mostly say things like if a mom and dad really love each other and really want a baby they will have one. Then I get "but how?"
How much have you told your kids? Any book recs? It's not the stork gets a lot of good reviews and is supposed to be for this age group but I don't know how much is too much info! I want to be open with her but I also don't want her being the kid who tells the other kids how you get a baby!
Re: The birds and the bees?
I have a book for kids about bodies and private parts, but have been putting off reading it. Need to make time soon before talking about this stuff gets "embarrassing". For now, she is still really open and asks lots of questions. I forget the book name off hand, but I'll try to remember to message it to you later.
I don't think our district does sex Ed until 6th grade, so I can't depend on health class to take the burden. :-)

But the AG 1st book didn't talk about babies or anything. Even since I wrote this post she keeps asking. She said she wants to know how you get a baby because she wants to make sure she can have 1 when she's older. I talked some about a seed growing like a plant (she's been growing some plants lately). I'm just not sure how to really answer her without straight up telling her. And honestly I am ok with being open and honest about that but I don't want her being the kid who tells all the kids how babies are made!
Frankly, if you don't want to get into the technical aspects of it then I would just explain to her that two people are really in love (and married if you want to go that route), they are able to make a baby together. And that you have to be a woman to have a baby and you won't know if you can have one until you are older but most woman can. (I would strongly emphasis love, marriage and everything else I could). If that doesn't pacify her tell her that inside women are eggs (teeny tiny etc... so she doesn't think easter egg !) and when a man & woman are in love (etc etc), his body can help the egg become a baby. And I would also say that she doesn't need to know how that happens right now b/c its not something that will happen to her for a long time & its something for adults and not kids. So hopefully she will take from that it takes man & woman in love or married & that it starts with an egg with help from the man.
At that point my kid would be satisfied but if yours still questions and you really think she needs to know then I would tell her in addition to above that the two lay together very close and love each other so much that they are able to make a baby or that he inserts his blank in her blank and they are able to make a baby. I wouldn't get into when a baby is made & when it isn't b/c I would want my kid to think that every time it happens a baby can be made.
I think what you tell her depends on what you think your daughter wants to hear and what she is ready to hear and understand. Is she mature enough to have a frank discussion about all of this? And is she the kind of kid that will tell everyone else at school? B/c if she was I wouldn't go into the detail.

Your daughter is so inquisitive April! I kind of feel lukcy thta I only have boys bc the whole "when you grow up and get married and are in love, two people make a baby with God's help" and when Gavin has asked about how the baby comes out of the tummy, I just tell him that the doctor cut Mommy open to take the baby out that way. Seems to satisy his curiousity for now.
He DID just ask me, on Sunday, if the Easter Bunny was real (he'll be 8 in a couple of weeks). Oy.
But I like what Sheila said - and I think it's the perfect balance of walking that fine line. I'd be interested to hear if this satisfies her curiousity!
