What to wear when you're not young, but not old?

Where do you shop when you're a 27 year old mom? I still want to look young/trendy/stylish, but I realize that Forever 21 and juniors departments are in my past and I would look silly in anything in that style. Right now I'm specifically stuck on shorts; where can I find shorts that aren't crazy short/tight, but still look stylish?

Re: What to wear when you're not young, but not old?

  • Banana Republic is my go-to mature-but-still-stylish chain store.  Express also sells shorts that are longer and fitted but not too tight.
  • Banana Republic is my choice, too.
  • I wear what I like and don't worry about others' opinions.

I'm 31 and wear clothing from a variety of stores.  I have everything from Target, The Loft, Banana Republic, White House Black Market, Express, New York and Company, Macys.   I dress based on where I'm going.

Work:  Dresses, Tunics (long, mid thigh) w/ leggings, dress pants, cardigans.  Most of my work stuff comes from The Loft, Banana and Target.

Weekends:  I wear jeans from Express (great fit) with tank tops, long cardigans, sandals in summer or riding boots in cooler months.   Sundresses (I live in Florida, so I do have strapless dresses to stay cool in the hot, hot summers).  I still wear Pink hoodies in the cooler months because they're super comfy and I like the fit (not too tight, not too baggy/frumpy)

I've always worn what I liked and kept with a classic style.  I like clothes that don't go out of style within a few months.  I own tons of Maxi dresses/skirts, sundresses, jeans and just simple looking (well fitting) tank tops and tees.

As long as you're wearing clothes that flatter your body, then wear what you like.  Age is only a number.
